I hope you're kidding RE this Tom? 'They' do more damage, than good.

how do they do more harm? i never use them myself! but was just saying that they wouldn't look forward to cleaning a car thats in that state

Looks like mine at them moment, when driving 25/30k a year the last thing i wanna do is clean my motor this time of year. 2 minutes driving and your back to square 1.

They dont use the correct washing technique, and this can put swirl marks into your paint.

how do they do more harm?

By rinsing all the crap off your car into a bowl/bucket whatever then rubbing it AGAIN all over your nice paint work.

If they used the two bucket method i'd be there every other day in this weather

You're right, I doubt they would, no. But as Faz states, they will use bad technique throughout.. (get it in, get it done, get it out! "nexxxt!") thus, inflicting swirls/holograms into your car. Best way is to do it yourself, use two buckets (if you don't already..) one for wash solution, and one for a rinse bucket. Contact by PM for more details if you wish :)

its alright i know how to wash my car  spend all day doing it during the summer months. well my RS Turbo anyway, an i use the two bucket method that you mentioned! not dedicated a days cleaning to the S3 yet so that only gets a quick going over at the moment thats why i aint put any pics of it up yet

so if your using the 2 bucket method you must understand why you shouldnt go to the hand car wash surely?????

i've never used a hand car wash, hence not knowing what they are like! :detective2:

that is what a 40 mile round trip to work every day does, in an area with more quarries/farms than you can shake a stick at.

Hence lots of trucks on the road anmd very dirty roads.

That is only 2 weeks of dirt

as for the wash your car for £5 places yes they leave horrible swirl marks all over the car, I am gonna pay a company to de swirl it now so the £5 wash wasnt that cheap now was it :(

I think you should make a thread bout cleaning cars. I could do with some tips..........? :beerchug:

Just remembered as well on Tuesday i came out of training to find someone had parked in the space behind mine and absolutely glistening clean bright yellow 8L S3
Plate was S3 JOL or something like that.

everyones on a right detailing mission these days aren't they. mind you when summer comes everyone wants a nice gleaming car i suppose.

Does anyone know of any yorkshire(preferably south yorkshire) specialist's who can remove scratch's, swirls etc? Mine is in abit of a mess from previous owners.

My first S3...
The dirt and the salt was so solid that honestly i should have used a scrapper.

Cleaned it 2 weekends on the trot now.
6 hours first weekend and 3 hours for the one just gone.

I had previously taken it to one of these wash for a quid places and they really did leave BAD swirl marks all over the place, took me ****** ages to get them all out and I'm still not 100% satisfied with the result.

Good thing is that the car has now had a couple of coats of polish on it and when I took pics it looked absolutely mint just not had chance to get them off my phone onto pc yet though.
