one for the people who use a independent for servicing.....if I were to go to a independent for my services would it give audi any grounds to be funny with me in the event of a warranty claim because I’ve not been serviced at Audi ?

I’ve had warranty work done in the past outside of the threshold on the basis I had full main dealer service history. Most main dealer garages will price match. I paid £160 for a full service. I would stick with them. Expensive cars. Don’t scrimp.

It is an EU regulation that dealers are not to penalise customers who use independant servicing. However, this goes out the window if said independant chappie or chappess makes a mistake that leads to damage.

How easy is it then for a dealer to wiggle out of a warranty claim on this basis?

There was a thread a while back where Audi refused a claim because they alleged that an independant topped up the rad bottle with AdBlue - or something on this line - that eventually found its way out through the temp sender, through the wiring loom into the ECU! This despite the fact that there is an air gap between the the sender and the covering of the wiring loom and that all the pins of an ECU have a very elaborate water seal around each!

As he says, stick with the dealer for an easy life. What seems to work where I live is to give the minor service - oil change and the like - to the small guy and the major service to the dealer.

Would it have an affect on the value of the car come sale time if you had it serviced at an independent garage?

I've had my A8 serviced at an independant and then contacted Audi extended warrenty to check that I was still covered and they said as long as you can prove that all parts used are genuine audi parts and the oil used is the same as that used by Audi main dealers then you are still covered.
I went back to having service done at main dealer due to the expected hassle of proving all this.

Just this was the price I got quoted from Audi in Glasgow

I think they have something wrong with the price of the service all prices are inclusive of vat I’ve been told

Car is 2016 with 5700 miles

Just had my S3 had a service at an indy, they said I had a coolant pump failure, took it to Audi, they investigated and fixed the issue under warranty, no issues.

I think the biggest issue would come if there was a situation where something (for instance) failed just outside the warranty period where a dealer could use a bit of goodwill. If you've been having your car serviced there since you got it they may be more helpful.

That said, get them to price match the independent though.

As long as genuine parts are used where necessary and the proper oem service checks are carried out, it shouldn't matter who physically did the work. As @Hal Adams said, the EU have made it illegal for dealers to penalise you for going outside their network (so they can't force their extortionate rates on us).

I don't think anyone is disputing that fact. It's more that you are more likely to receive goodwill outside of warranty if it has been serviced by an Audi main dealer. I have certainly been a beneficiary of this before.

In addition, (and this is all personal preference), I would rather buy a car with an Audi service history than an independent. It smacks of penny pinching on such an expensive car, even though I agree that an independent would probably do a better job. The same applies if I were to see budget tyres.

I definitely agree with you when you see budget tyres it’s put me off buying a few cars that...the RS is booked in Glasgow Audi for servicing and first mot if I can get them to price match ideal if not it is what it is....you pay to play with these sort of cars

When my RS3 went in px to an Audi main dealer I showed them the service history from my local Audi/VW specialist with all the invoices showing genuine parts being used & what was done at the correct intervals etc & they were more than happy. They have heard of the ''specialist'' (4 branches) in the north & they were more than happy. Main dealer prices are crazy compared to an independent specialist & I will always use mine for the serving on the SQ5 I have now.

Shame they won't inc a service plan for the RS,S & R8 range at the main dealers as I might be tempted then.
