Im new to the group. Ive hadda couple 1.8t's in the past and have a 2001 facelift a3, AUM lump. I got this car for £675 ( which wasnt too much imo ), no history with it though and on 137k miles. First thing i needed to do was remove the sh***y dump valve and put a recirc on it as im led to believe they dont run well with blow offs. Then came a boost gauge to see what she boosted at. Bit iffy from that point lol. I tended to reach a peak boost then change gear rather then hold boost. Its just the way i drive. My friend then drove it and said he wanted to see if held boost, which at the time was hitting pretty much 15psi! HOWEVER, if he kept on the throttle it would drop to 0.5 or 0.6psi! We double checked the recirc valve and boost pipes, and they are tight as a****les! Any idea what could be causing this inconsistency? That seems a big spike.
