My car is an A4 3.0 218 TDI S-Tronic, is 3 years old in September and currently on about 51k miles.
The car in on variable (long life) servicing and was last serviced in January this year when it had full oil change and S-Tronic oil changed, along with all four brake pads and discs.
For the last month or so, I've been getting a message on my dashboard saying "Inspection Due". As I'm due an MOT next month I phoned up to book it in. The guy told me that the brake fluid is also due to be changed, which is every two years apparently. Price is about £65 - can get it done locally for £30 less than that, so I said leave it. I also asked about this "Inspection Service" message.
First - how can brake fluid change be due at 3 years if it's meant to be done every two years? Surely it should have been due last year when I had my service done? I don't recall it being done previously though.
Second - I asked for a quote on the "Inspection" and was told £225. I declined for now. However - what on earth does an "Inspection" include?? It doesn't need oil changing as you can see from the MMI, it's on relatively new pads/discs on all four corners, it's just gone through an MOT (all done at this Audi dealership) - so apart from maybe a pollen filter and fuel filter (which surely should have been done on the last service at around 40k miles), what else can possibly be required?
When I took it in for the MOT, I mentioned it to the girl on the service desk (i.e. what needs doing as it's not due oil for a long time) - she wasn't aware of the price, but just said "oh, that'll probably just be for your brake fluid". So let's say I take it to ATS who can do the brake fluid for £36 - will they be able to clear the message? Or is there actually something else I should be having done??
Dealers have been hopeless at explaining what it actually is - and I'm certainly not shelling out £225 for someone to tell me everything has already been done. It is simply popping up because I've hit the 3 year mark?
To add insult to injury it also failed the MOT due to perished rear coil mounts! Luckily covered under warranty but means a trip back next week for the work to be done and MOT completed.
