So its coming to renewal time and I want to fit Eibach Pro's, just got a new quote with and without and the premiums double with the springs fitted...…

Any good insurers that don't feature on the compare websites?

Don’t tell them?

Smart advice.......

Then when a serious accident happens the OP will be screwed.

I’m about to go with Brentacre for £1185, second cheapest but I get more for my money. 24, 3y NCB, 1 at fault accident. Any mods which don’t increase bhp are free to add to the policy, breather mods are also free to add as long as the car doesn’t get remapped. Chris Knott came in at £1160 but excess was £750, whereas with Brentacre it’s a few hundred less and the breather mods is a big sway.

Have you tried Admiral?
I think it was about £40 increase for having coilovers on mine.
Found it was cheaper for putting my sister on the insurance as well.

Adrian Flux without a doubt. Modified policy, price only increases if you add bhp.

I doubt he’d be screwed. I doubt they’d even check.

If it’s just a fender bender, you’re probably right.

However, if god forbid OP was in a smash and potentially caused fatalities, an assessor is sent to inspect the car to find anything not as it should be. Tyres below tread. Illegal LEDs fitted. Mods you haven’t told them about. Doesn’t matter if they contributed to the accident, the insurer will do everything possible to avoid the 6 or 7 figure payout. Their argument (valid) is that you entered into the agreement with them under false pretences, or neglected to tell them a modification had been done. As a result, OP could be looking at being liable for the entire claim.

American site, but this nails it. https://www.lelandwest.com/reporting-vehicle-modifications-to-car-insurance-company.cfm

‘If you fail to report your mods on your insurance application, you can be tagged for "material misrepresentation". You risk having a claim refused at a time when you need financial protection the most‘

Take the risk, by all means. Maybe they can tell, maybe they won’t. But at the end of the day, it’s insurance fraud.

You would also struggle to be insured ever again, as it would be on permanent record on the insurers database that you didn’t disclose all info, and have had insurance cancelled.

Insurers ask "Why would someone upgrade their suspension unless they were going to use it to it's full potential" Some just don't want drivers with modified cars as they are the drivers who cane it around corners and are a bigger risk.

Exactly, my nephew kept doing mods to his car, each time I went on and on at him to tell his insurance! He's glad he did after it got a bit errr scratched a few weeks back :)

I doubt he’d be screwed. I doubt they’d even check.

They checked his when they guy went out to see it, he was there at the same time and the bloke said "Did you tell us about the different springs?" He was happy to say "Yes" :)

Both his normal insurance and gap are paying him out :)

That looked like it was his pride and joy :crying:

Poor fella

At least he was upfront and honest, could’ve been looking at a nasty bill.

Try Sky Insurance, my friend just changed his suspension on an already modified M3 and they didn't charge him anything extra (he's paying around £1,000 a year). They're a broker specialising in performance and modified cars

It was mate, only a day or so before he'd been to Bala lake with his mates and taken this picture:

He was doing 60mph on a dual carriageway arguing with his 'now ex girlfriend', when she decided it would be a good idea to snatch the steering wheel and yank it left!!! :wtf: They left the road, hit a tree, rolled twice and ended up in a deep ditch! They both walked away without a scratch  The police are prosecuting her after she admitted and signed a witness statement saying what she'd done. Needless to say my nephew hasn't been in touch with her at all :)

Pretty poor example though mate. That car is clearly modified. When I put different springs on a car I had, you couldn’t even tell they were new after about a month, never mind modified.

Christ, that’s one helluva story

Shame.... not my taste but I appreciate that he must’ve spent 10s if not 100 of hrs on it.... looks stunning in the photo

Hopefully she gets her comeuppance and he isn’t pinged for it in future quotes.... though I suspect the premiums will go up regardless :wtf:

What’s incredible is that the car could go through that and neither one of them is hurt at all... shows how far cars have come in safety terms...

lol yeah OK, just take the chance on losing thousands for the sake of a few quid extra (if anything) on your premium. If the insurance can find an excuse not to pay out they will! Is it worth the chance?

You should always declare any modifications done to your car, like others have said insurance companies will do anything to get out of paying out.

Doing most modifications should only cost a few quid extra not double your premium,I would certainly give Adrian Flux a shout and see what they can do.

My premium with admiral is currently £800 ish. Haven’t got my renewal yet but on compare they are coming up at 1000 as is and close to 2k with springs. Only change to circumstances is an extra years ncb. I’ll try Adrian flux tomorrow. Thanks for all the replies.

Try the Admiral website.
Get a quote off confused or whoever, follow the link and then declare mods on Admiral website.
Mine came down £100 from what the search sites gave me.
£400 now, less than the **** tax!!

Worth a try.
They're competitive for house insurance as well.
