yeah sorry to be clear, the airbag shape is what i was referring to:

round steering wheel w/trapezoid airbag - new hands on detection system (what comes stock on the 8Y when you get assistance package, lane keep etc)
flat bottom w/trapezoid airbag - new hands on detection system (same system as above but only on RS6/RS7 for now)
flat bottom w/round airbag (the classic wheel everyone loves) - won't work with the new system although probably could code out the errors. believe this is offered in europe for 8Y for any cars without new drivers assistance

nah im with you, i don't plan on buying from them they just seem to be ahead of everyone right now in terms of information. europrice is also including a new airbag which we wouldn't need so def adds to the cost.

$1350 for non-heated, all leather and gray stitching to match my RS3 on order. pricey yes but these should've come on the car from the start IMO. can also get from them in alcantara/red stitching etc. heated option is a waste since the 8Y won't have that

I'll add this here as this is my new wheel.
I would have loved the flat-bottom but as it would mean having to re-code some assistance features out or get error messages I wouldn't want that.

You can see this wheel has a small box at the bottom that appears to accept those capacitive touch inputs.

As no one has opened up a flat-bottom wheel to check if this is present (and as it is super expensive I doubt anyone wants to try) this is the best we can get that works. Also available in green.

Hard to tell... There is something there, but you can't be sure from this angle. It might be worth asking the seller if there is that box. Tomorrow I will pick up the wheel before I get it swapped so I will get some close-up photos of the inside.

He didn't answer that question - does it have the same box as the wheel I ordered? Yes or No.
Also these wheels do not have the same buttons as the RS3 wheel. Maybe they are transferrable; but I don't know for sure. Also $2398!?

And here is is fitted… it feels amazing in the hand and actually thinner although I don’t think it is. But mostly the red stitching matches the red vents and matts and the various red details on the infotainment system and start button. Would I have liked the flat bottom with the 12’o clock stripe? Yes but I didn’t want to compromise on the assistance features.

My flat bottom wheel came from Euro price yesterday. Box on the inside looks different to the box inside the round wheel, that we know works. Will be fitting soon so I’ll find out soon enough, if it’s plug & play like they said

Yeah I believe the same airbag would work, but I ordered a matching leather one. Plastic one just looks a bit out of place to me on 50k plus car. Got the red air vents to match it all as well

Will get the guy installing it to check. In terms of price everything is on the euro price website, can’t remember off the top of my head as it was in dollars.

Really interested in swapping the wheel with the TTRS version with drive mode and start stop on it if everything works plug and play and if there is a way to code out the lane hold assist since i only used it once as a gimmick so i will not miss it at all and that steering wheel looks mega compared to this stock round one.

@Detail Devil you seem to be in the same situation as me, can u shoot me a message or post some feedback here once u install yours ?

TTRS wheel won’t work without changes.

It needs a little modding and some coding even on the 8V.

Easier to fit the buttons and then the receiver it works fine on the 8Y too.

You just gotta be handy with the tools / Dremel etc, I fitted them on my old 8V.

Super info, and i really appreciate the effort to answer so comprehensively.
From what i understood this wheel (shown above- but just the 2 big buttons , not the 2 smaller ones) that i want to purchase and already comes with the start stop and drive mode attached and the drive select mode works p&p because it uses same comunication as 8Y (LIN). For some reason, the problem would still be the start/stop button.
I may be wrong.

It’s the start button that needs a tweak.
Plus then it needs some coding too.

Add on buttons from Ali express etc use a transmitter to/from the OEM start button
