as per title really what do you think of it?

Not all that different really.

Marginally quicker
Slightly better battery life.
I like the new notification scheme with swipe to access the message/event etc
double click to wake and get to camera and ipod controls is nice.
backup to iCloud is easier than iTunes
need to upgrade to Lion on my MBA to see how iCloud works out.

Would not have paid for it, but a slight improvement overall IMHO...

Cheers,

I updated on my 3gs and now my phone doesnt work!!. The phone says my sim card is not aurthorised for my phone or some crap like that. Have been to orange and they say its a problem with iphone and i have to now take it there. Not a happy bunny at the mo.
Anyone else have this issue?

Liking the iOS5, I upgraded my iPhone 4 to it and then got an iPhone 4S, and now they both feel pretty much the same. It was a waste taking the 4S, the only real extra over and above a 4 running iOS5 is Siri which is useless to me anyway.

I'm tempted by 4S for better camera / video, but the 4 feels improved by iOS 5 so I'm less inclined to upgrade. If it had ground to a standstill I may have been forced to rethink, but it seems to be running ok.

pretty happy with it on my JB iPhone 4 32 Gb.. also upgraded Lion on the iMac at the same time.. iCloud seems to work fine and the wireless syncing with iTunes is pretty cool.. :)

i take it you are running on tethered JB? i am holding off the upgrade until untethered becomes available at which point i will get Siri on my iPhone 4. :)

Yep - it's only tethered at the minute.. not a biggie as I never have to reset my phone (when I'm away from the house) and my battery never really runs out - i.e. I have charger at work, one at home and the car stereo charges it as well! LOL! :)

i used to run tethered JB last year but now that i have untethered i find it easier.
shall i bother to wait for untethered or shall i just go for the upgrade? which jb did you do? redsnow?

ok so took the plunge and upgraded to iOS5, and jailbroke it again but this time it is tethered...
pita to get all the jb apps back as not all of them are compatible, although alot of them i have found are not needed since the tweak is already implemented in iOS5 which is good.
missing my theme but now on the lookout for something else to make the screen look more appealing.

Well tok the plunge and finally upgraded to ios5 took hours to do partly my fault as i have never updated software before, i thought just be syncing with my iPhone would back up all my stuff. however i was mistaken luckly i right clicked on my iPhone on L/H menu. and back up there. when it finally loaded the ios5 i had to sync apps etc individually

i hope its worth it

good luck mate, i kept on messing up my phone with the JB everytime i tried to restore the JB tweaks... took me a good 2 days but i have it working now and it looks good

Go into 'settings/general/accessibility/custom vibrations' and turn it on. Go into your contacts, select a person 'edit/vibration' You can edit the vibration...better still you can create your own!

It is quite clever how it knows when you are texting another iPhone, so goes into iMessage mode. You will see your bubble turns blue rather than green.

In camera mode, you can use the volume + button to take the shot and you can zoom in and out using the usual two finger swipe function on the screen. You don't have to exit 'photos' to access the camera and the camera has more functions.

If your phone is linked up to your outlook account and you have folders within the cabinet, you can click on 'edit' then rename folders and move them around.

That's all I have found that is different to the previous operating system so far. I sometimes find my phone lags behind during texting, but the majority of the time it is fine.

Things I don't like about ios 5:

1) Camera quality is significantly worse i.e. poor focus especially if you move when taking a photo.
On ios 4 I could take 100% in-focus photos during most types of movement.

2) Scrubbing/moving through a video in landscape by using the timer bar is hit and miss. Sometimes takes 3 or 4 attempts at grabbing bar before being able to advance/rewind.
I think it's the new notification centre pull down area that is causing issues.

3) Home button on front of phone is not as responsive now. Sometimes takes a few presses before phone responds.

4) Little blue icon (indicating who is using iMessage/ios5) next to contact names only appears when in messaging app and when starting to type a name in the 'To' field.
Surely it'd be more useful if it also displayed the blue icons when hitting the + icon and viewing contacts list.

The rest of the operating system seems ok so far.

i like the way new notifications come up in the banner instead of disturbing you like it used to. always used to get disturbed with a text message or whatsapp message while im doing things on the phone.

the icloud thing is handy, dont need to sync pics from camera roll manually anymore. also the wifi sync to itunes is good.

local weather finally! have been wanting this for ages! dont know why it took apple so long to do this

Hate the fact that bluetooth is still locked down and A2DP auto connects to devices when i dont want it to.

also have been themeing the crap out of the phone, got some nice things going on in my iPhone but not yet finished... some minor glitches left to iron out

I'm not the only one then. I thought there was something wrong with my phone.

mines only a 16GB :3sadwalk: hopefully they will have a fix soon

Something else I've found that irritates me....

If I go to google using safari and type something in the search field that is longer than the viewable space it scrolls to the right as I type. This is fine and expected.
BUT if i then want to delete the last word or words that I typed I first drag the cursor to the end of the text and then press delete... but delete doesn't work.
The only way I can delete the text at the end is by first deleting text that is in the middle of what I have written, which then pulls the text at the end on to the screen and then I can delete.

Here's what I mean. Trying to delete "tosser" won't work until I delete "irritates" or "sometimes" so that the entire search term is displayed on the screen..

Ads that last one is weird, i dont get that at all.
sometimes i double tap on the word itself to select it but i dont get issues with dragging the cursor onto the word to delete it. the other thing i can do is like a double tap but more of a tap and then hold, then drag over the word i want to change.

I just tried it with two other people in my office and they have the same problem. Must be a bug.

Maybe I didn't explain the bug properly. Try this...

1) go to google.com, type enough text in the proper search window within the web page to make it start scrolling across.
2) move the cursor to the far left (beginning) of the text you have just written.
3) now move the cursor back to the right (end) of the same text.
4) now press the backspace/delete button.

Does the text delete?

LOL! i just did it and it messes up just as you said! it looks like its a problem with googles web page search bar though....

reason why i probably didnt know it does that is because i hate using that search bar... its always been crap and mobile safari has one built in as standard!

I upgrade but dont see anything different.
It did delete all my apps, music and contacts aswell so had to start over again! That was a pain..

if you did the upgrade with itunes and then did the restore after you should have all the apps music and pics there!

i did an update and re-jailbreak and only needed to reinstall some tweaks.

also if you want to look for something new just swipe your finger down from the top of the screen to reveal the notification centre.

I did it though Itunes but eveything had deleted from itunes also.
I dodne a google search and i wasnt the only one..

oh i feel for you mate! do you not have any back ups of your iphone?
in itunes go to edit and then preferences, then i think its devices and it should list any back ups you have of the phone?

thats what i mean - Itunes had deleted the back up - I do a back up near daily! What a waste of time!
Oh well - it was an excuse to download a load of new apps and put them neatly in folders.

what a load of crap! cant believe it deletes all those backups. oh well at least you dealt with it, i would have thrown the iphone out the window if that happened to mine

got to agree with Aythree i hate the new deleting part of the address very annoying!

i just did an upgrade on an ipad and im disappointed to see that ipads dont come with the standard weather app built in... which means no weather on the notification centre for those poor folks that dont jailbreak.
