iPod interface HELP!

Just added a genuine iPod interface into my wife's a3 but can't get it to work.

Works perfectly in mine so it's not the unit.

So my questions are

1) even if I don't want to charge the iPod does the brown wire need to be wired in?
2) when I plug it in, I double click CD on the Chorus HU and it doesn't do anything. Do I need to code in VAGCOM?

The brown wire will be the negative connection to the iPod dock so connect this to a suitable place on the chassis to get a ground connection

Did you have a cd changer before if not there's a good chance the head unit needs coding correctly to tell it there's a cd player connected ( I know it's an iPod but the head unit doesn't have that option it uses the same connection as the cd changer.
