Is my turbo a TTE420?

Hi guys, bought a TTE420 used from someone on the Facebook forum, this may sound like a stupid question but how can I tell it's the hybrid? What's the obvious marks to look out for, as visually it doesn't really look different obviously... Is there any marks or specific changes to look for?

Lots of physical differences to a stock turbo. Check the turbine and make sure it's the same as the ones in the pictures in the link above. A very obvious change along with several other mods.

Here is some pics, looks like the upgraded turbine but hard to tell, also pic of inlet I haven't had a proper look at a standard one to compare

That isn't a TTE420. That looks like a standard K04 turbine it's not cut back for a start and looks stock size compared to the K16 turbine on a TTE420.
It may be some kind of hybrid with a larger compressor wheel or it may just be stock.

Does this differ much from the TTE420?

Not a great deal different tbh, however the figures qouted on the page are very reserved and for reliability, the turbo is capable of 415-430bhp

At the end of the day, it all depends what dyno you use to get your power figures - some dynos run 20-30 bhp more on the same car. They don't mention high speed balancing on that link - this is key to longevity on these turbos.

Yeah it will be going to r-tech to get mapped, anything over 400 I will be happy with anyway, yeah I'm sure they do it I spoke to them on the phone about it, would be madness not to balance it lol
