Is this normal for a diesel?

Hi,
Does anybody else have a car that does this on startup? Is this normal for a diesel to sound like this?

Might be time to find another mechanic if they let you out the door with car sounding like that and saying it’s not faulty.
It could be a million things from injectors, pistons, big end bearing or a pulley from air con pump etc.
Does it quieten down when you drive normally? Power?

Definitely. He tried to say it was the egr valves that were fooling the emissions and making it do this. But I doubt it. It does it after 15-20 secs for about 30 secs then it stops and drives fine. The annoying thing is it doesn’t do it every time i start it in the morning. And once it’s been started I can stop and leave it for hours and once I start it again it doesn’t do it.

Have you checked the oil level, check oil for coolant and coolant for oil?
Can’t really tell from the video. Do you hear roughly where it comes from under the bonnet?

Oil level was fine. I will check tomorrow for the coolant and see if I can find anything. Il try and do a video with the bonnet up to see if I can find out where the noise is coming from.
