cant beat the £1 shops for auto bits - got some turtle wax wash and wax shampoo, really good quality chamois leathers, MF mitt, tyre shine (as good as expensive gear) interior handy wipes, and these really snazzy stainless steel valve caps - mine has the black plastic ones but replaced with super shiny non rust ones for a quid! :sunglasses:Ok so there's only me that knows they're there but they do look rather good lol - have a trip to the £1 shop - you may be pleasantly surprised :relaxed: I'm used to budgeting and looking for bargains but even if I was loaded I'd still go there lol ! Leaves me more to spend on shoes and clothes :grinning:lol

Omg , Gill , utter carnage .

Microfiber drying towel .
I used that after the chamois ...have I committed an awful Audi faux pas :fearscream:??...I'm still learning ...bet you wouldn't approve of what I used on the plastic/rubber widow trims seeing as I can't get my hands on back to black :fearscream::grimacing:....improvise adapt and overcome ....or maybe not lol! But I did good with the snazzy shiny valve caps (though I did have to ask a guy in the £1 shop if they were a standard size) duh ...senior blonde moment :grimacing:lol

Hahahahaha what did you use instead of back to black......baby oil.

Haha! Never thought of that ! Colleague told me peanut butter but the experience I had with that the other week was not pleasant :anguished:..had more on the upholstery, mats and in my hair than on the trim ! Gets everywhere :rage:. ...no I used that liquid shoe polish stuff...it was black ...ok I can imagine you and other experienced Audi owners looking ...like ......:fearscream::frowning::weary::triumph:!! I NEED back to black haha:tearsofjoy:!!

Put the leather in the bin. It'll cause swirls and marring over your black paint work. With a black car only lay the MF on the wet car and pat. Don't drag or wipe it. Again can cause swirls. The less you touch a black cars paint work the better. Unless it has a ceramic coat on it.

I would also ditch the 'non rust' wheel caps Gill, I have heard way too many stories about people having them jammed on and then the pain in the butt trying to get them off.

Ive been advised by a colleague to use a tiny bit of copper slip around the threads - I'll also check them every time I wash and polish him - every Sunday - and I have the plastic ones in reserve lol - oh and I got some back to black in the £1 shop at the metro centre !! Yay!! Happy !!

Polish? Not every week! Twice a year or less if not needed. Wax/sealant yes, no polish. With the back to black, spray it onto a small applicator sponge and wipe it on. Don't spray it as it'll go over your paintwork and streak it.

Maybe I'm getting confused - i seem to do that a lot lol! When I say polish I mean wash then use demon shine /auto glym ??...is that ok? It's just that I have to park him on my drive which sees much bird action and the poop needs removing daily and I work on site where there's loads of dust and sand and stuff and he always has a coat of dust every day - and by Sunday he needs a wash and polish - maybe polish is an old fashioned term lol ...hope I'm not doing more harm than good ....and yes ..I always used back to black sparingly in the 80s when it was in a bottle - now it's in a can - but I'll be v careful - thanks for the advice though

What AG stuff you using? For an every week wash if you want to keep it basic I'd say, power wash rinse, wash with hot soapy water, rinse, dry with MF and then use Poorboys black hole topped with some AG Extra Gloss Protection. Very easy routine and building up the layers will keep him well protected. Remember not to rub bird poo off. Wet and ring out a MF stick it in the microwave for 2 minutes and place it over the bird poo. Leave it for 30 seconds and then wipe gently. The poo should come clean off. If you rub it when dry it'll just scratch your paintwork.

Good lord! There's things I've never heard of before poorboys black hole?! What o earth is that??!!lol! I've used the AG polish last week but every other week demon shine. As for the cloth in the microwave - I don't get time on a morning for a coffee in the microwave let alone warm bird poo cloth haha- I just pour water over the poo then remove gently with sponge ....i didn't realise but owning an Audi is what it must be like having kids !!! Worry, concern, pride, expense, stress.....but sooooo worth it !!!

Basically......junk all that stuff and get yourself over to the detailing section! Some good advice on there!

Thanks ....I'm still finding my feet ...just be happy to know the basics right now! Shame there aren't any Audi info courses or a local Audi owners group lol - I'm boring the life out of my work colleagues haha!

There must be a North East group in the local meets section.

Also have a look on the Detailing World Forum as they run alot of local detailing courses.

Black is a VERY difficult colour to keep clean and shows swirl marks bad. However, a detailed black car looks amazing when done properly.

I know - I'm really worried about all the stone chips on the bonnet and there are minor scratches (not my doing) and I need to get him seen to by a professional so I can then keep on top of the maintenance ...just waiting until I get a decent job and income ...has to happen soon ...
