What a job that was! nice and easy on all the other cars ive had, this was a pig! but had to be done as it nearly didnt start at all this morning. I couldnt afford a top range battery unfortunately, so i went for a Bosch S3, are these ok? 3 year warranty anyway so not overly worried. Unfortunately didnt seem to solve my brake warning on starting, although need to give this more time so that the battery can be properly charged. If that fails, the audi fix of a new relay to fix this problem..is it something that can be done DIY and does anyone have any instructions?

Thanks a lot, car is getting there, So far changed: cambelt, water pump, oil strainer, thermostat, temp sender, battery, snub mount, PAS pump, aux belt tensioner. Got to do: Brakes, CV joint and solve this annoying vibration over bumps, potholes and rough ground. All good fun!

J7USS - i know you said i probably should have done a more thorough check of the ar, but considering how much it cost, im more than happy to do all this work, and once its done, itll be mint again i hope! Then i can get on with the fun parts!

Wow you have been busy! Fair play.

I'd like to know more about the audi relay fix too. I get eh cold weather brake start up problem too.

Yeah and ive only had the car for about 1.5 months! its getting tougher to fit in doing these things now the days are getting shorter, helps that im self employed though.

The brake problem is just annoying, those 3 beeps everytime i start the car, however i do hope the battery has cured it, need to give it a few days. but i did read about someone sending another person instructions on how to fit the relay etc, so someone must know how to do it!

no problem, youre right, do need to check cars fully, but i did give it a good going over. Anyway, its done now, just need to get it sorted. All the things left are things I knew about anyway.

Any advice on the relay issue?

I changed my battery a couple of months back what a bitch to do need arms like Geoff Capes but my back out lifting the ****** thing:sob:

I too bought a Bosch battery and ive had no problems with it so far

was it an S3? they also had s4 and 5's but i didnt want to splash out on those

It is an S4 i paid £63 for it from a local indy specialist who i take my car to not to bad compared to other places, Halfrauds was £120 and Audi wanted £155:wtf:.I asked Audi why the battery is physically so big and they told me the batteries are that size as they should last the life of the car so i told them as my car is only 5years old they can replace free of charge ha ha no joy from them(you dont ask you dont get!!) so i went for the Bosch!!

i dont know the difference between the s3 and s4, if i remember the bosch chart correctly, the amps and Ah are the same if not higher, and the battereis are the same size. The s3 comes with 3 year warranty adn the s4 comes with 4, but i dont know the other differences. Bosch say the S3 is for smaller and older cars, but it works well for me!

bake warning is due to the wire from the battery to fuse box running too close to a sensor and tripping it. i moved my wire and it doesnt do it anymore.

the big one! runs from the +ve to the fuse box.

ok thanks, i should probably been more specific. I take it its the wire that runs near the wireing loom, but where abouts is the sensor that i need to move it away from?
sorry if thats a stupid question but i havent looked under the bonnet yet due to the weather here.

Will this achieve the same effect as the relay fix from audi? no harm in trying anyway but just wondered

its the sensor under the reservoir that flashes the warning light and bell .move the wire away stops this when starting.
