I decided to take my stock and hybrid K03’s apart today and it’s clear to see why the hybrid failed.

First off, the inlet housing on the hybrid turbo had split:

Secondly, seal on the hybrid is horribly misshapen (red one is from the hybrid, which was on my car for a few thousand miles, the black one is the stock seal which was on the car for around 120k miles!!!):

Here’s a pic of the compressor housings. Smaller one is from the stock K03, larger one was machined out to fit the larger compressor:

Here’s a pic of the compressor wheels for comparison. Black one is stock K03, billet one is the hybrid (I didn’t have time to remove them from the turbos as it started peeing down!!!):

I’m going to keep the hybrid compressor with a view to put it in the CTS K04 I have on the car now, eventually.

Interestingly, the hot side is slightly different on each of the turbos. The stock K03 has a small ‘lip’ next to the turbine where as the hybrid doesn’t (1st pic is the stock turbo

Once I’ve taken the compressors off I’ll take a pic of them side by side. The size difference is quite considerable!

Do you think the housing failure on the hybrid was a result of the enlargment process Dan?
The seal failure maybe in part a consequence of the housing failing etc.

Yeah it has to be, there’s nothing else that could cause the housing to split like that.

Im hoping as the CTS I have on the car now is a K04 the hybrid compressor will drop straight in without having to machine the housing?

You need to run a diagnostic on the car to look for fault codes. Always the best place to start
