Kayobong's MY09 Audi S5 4.2 V8

Today I purchased a car I never thought I would own. A 4.2L V8 Audi S5 Tiptronic. It is in exceptional condition and has been meticulously cared for by the previous owner. Having had a total of only 4 owners & 78,000 miles the car feels absolutely perfect and cannot fault any part of the driving experience. This is my first experience with a car that isn't a small hatchback, having just come from an Audi 8P S3 and whilst the size of the car seems intimidating at first, it's a really lovely car to drive.

I also got very lucky with the spec of the car, sporting my favourite ivory coloured interior, and a darker exterior, with this particular car being finished in an Audi Exclusive colour! I believe it is called "pacific blue" however I cannot find much information on the colour, I may phone Audi to try and determine the colour as the paint code is blank on the boot sticker. But I'm sure our local exclusive paint expert @jassyo06 will know!

The car is completely stock and some of the desirable options it has includes Bang & Olufsen Sound System, Keyless Entry, Technology Pack High (nav plus, phone prep, etc), Carbon Fibre Trim, Cruise Control, 20" 9j 7-arm twin spoke alloy wheels. The list goes on. As this is my first of this platform of Audi, I would appreciate any advice & things to look out for on these models. I know the 4.2 V8 engines & Tiptronic box are supposed to be reliable. The car has been serviced regularly using Millers Nano drive and plugs have all been done recently, so I am happy on that front.

I look forward to browsing this part of the forum and seeing everyone's cars.

Wow Kayobong, you have smashed it out of the park

Would absolutely LOVE a V8 myself one day, but can’t foresee at the mo.

Remember driving a mate’s massive S8 and was staggered with a) the sound b) how that tank shifted!

Anyway, back to your purchase...sounds a fantastic spec and looks the business. I am sure like your other cars you will tastefully mod and update the car. Congrats....subscribing

Lovely car. Hope you enjoy it as much as you liked the S3.

Thank you Sandra. So far so good, it's in a very different league to the S3 let just say.

Cheers Nev, I never thought I'd own one ever, if I'm honest, but I'm not doing many miles now so I can justify somewhat. I reset the average MPG and from the three hour drive home it averaged 31MPG and I did floor it a few times. That's somehow better MPG than my S3 managed on average! As far as mods go, I'm not too sure what I can do to it, I've been following @Flynn89forever with his S5 for some time and I'll probably be going down a similar route with my S5. Things like upgrading to the nicer FL switches & refining various bits and bobs whilst keeping the car standard. Will probably start by removing those gel plates and getting some nice, pressed metal ones on there.

Just got off the phone to Audi UK, turns out the colour is not "Pacific Blue", it is “Palace Blue” which I cannot find an example of on another A5/S5 or RS5. It seems to be a very rare colour, and I can only find pictures of it on RS cars and the R8. Needless to say, I am very happy with the colour and glad to see it's unique.

Thank you very much! I did view and test some S5's all but this one being manual cars. I originally set out to buy a manual, but the engine and gearbox combination suit the car much better in my opinion.

Nice car. Get a bore scope in the inlet to look at the valves as I believe they can get coke’d up and can benefit from a walnut blast.

Thank you! That is something I want to look at, I know these engines suffer bad from carbon build up, it's going in for a full health check by my local Audi specialist. They look after a lot of these S5's and they do inlet cleaning, however they prefer to manually clean the inlet valves as it's more thorough than a walnut blast and is supposedly better, although more time consuming.

Bit of an eye watering experience purchasing tyres for the S5. They cost over double the price of the tyres on my old S3! I’m thinking I should have downsized to 19” wheels

Thought I'd upload some better pictures of the loooovely interior. Still yet to give it a deep clean and protect the leather. Need to get my hands on some colourlock leather repair kit for the bolsters on the seats, it's not terrible but would like it to look perfect! In other news the drivers door would not unlock without physically inserting the key so a new door lock was fitted. I also had to purchase a new "V8" badge for the wing as the old one was falling off, it cost a stupid amount of money (£38).

Thought I'd start a list of things I want to do to the car:
- Facelift flat bottom steering wheel (supposedly straight swap).
- Dyno run & wallnut blast if numbers are low & a follow up dyno run.
- Auto dimming rear view mirror retrofit, only thing I miss from the S3! Seems odd a car this expensive wouldn't come with it.
- OEM aluminium pedals from B8.5.

Why don’t you give Jack at “Royal Steering Wheels” a message, he does custom steering wheel retrims and will do any design / style you like, in my old B8 A4 I had the same style steering wheel as yours and had it flat bottom with perforate leather and alcantara, also had my later A5 cab wheel done like below ...

It's something I'll definitely look in to, ideally I would like to keep the car 100% oem is the only thing as I know royal have their own stitching pattern.

Obligatory pics of my personal reg on the car, as well as a new Audi Sport plate holder as the last one went with the S3. I really rate these plate holders, they screw into the existing holes on the boot lid, and the plate clips into the holder, feels very secure and looks excellent in my opinion!
Also I've been looking at getting the PFL B8 A5 tail-lights, does anyone know if they're plug and play? I know the FL ones require coding/adapters.

I done the same, went from a few 8p s3’s to a b8 s5, always wanted a v8 and im not regretting it one bit!

It's really in a different league isn't it! I feel like I have grown up moving from the S3. Something about the S5 is very serene, I do not feel the need to drive it hard. I see a lot of people criticising the V8 for lack of tunability vs the supercharged V6, as well as people saying it feels "slower". But I absolutely love it and you cannot beat the feeling of grunt and lovely (albeit muted) exhaust note.

Its much better built than the s3 as well, i was surprised at the built quality of it compared to the s3, i had wingbacks in my s3 and the s5 seats are much better too, i enjoy driving the s5 and it really isnt as slow as everyone makes out, its just a different drive tbh. It is just what i was looking for, just a big lazy cruiser. No worse on fuel than my s3, that surprised me!

My sentiments exactly, completely agree with the build quality, the fuel economy surprised me too. I didn't have wingbacks in the S3 but the S5 seats are on another level of comfort, glad to see you're enjoying your S5 too! Do you have any pics of it?
