Had my cambelt and waterpump changed recently and when I got the car back I noticed a single knock everytime I pull off or change gear.
Sounds like it's coming from the front driver's side.

Just taken car back to Audi and after a quick road test the guy says it sounds like I could be the drive shaft.

As the noise only started the minute I picked my car up after they did the cambelt/waterpump change I wondered if they could have caused the problem??

Anyone know if this is possible? Or, if when working on cambelt/waterpump do they have to get involved with the drive shaft???

Cheers guys.

Possibly if they had the car on a ramp, or a 16 year old technician caught your driveshaft on a ramp when moving the car.I hope you get it sorted :o.k:

Guess I'll find out soon!! :crying:

Just want to be armed with a bit of info before I get the dreaded phonecall.

Apparently they need to jack up the engine to change the cambelt which can put stress on the driveshaft, possibily causing damage???
That sound feasible??

Or have a few straws just been clutched by me??!?!?

it sounds feasible unfortunatley some Audi Garages dont admit to many mistakes that can cost them

So apparently its the engine mounts. £500 to replace two!!!
They say its nothing to do with the work they did, its a coincidence that they've failed at the same time!

Guy said they remove drivers side mount and just put it back after so no way they couldve damaged it.
And if its the other side mount then they don't even touch that one.

My argument... If its the mount they remove causing the problem then they caused it. If its the other mount then surely by removing one extra stress or some movement is placed of this one???

Am I wrong?? Is this just coincidence that car was knock-free before they worked on it, and knocking as soon as I they finished the job??

Going to dealers to argue now!!

Good luck i hope you get it sorted, if you dont i certainly wouldnt hand over £500 to the stealers to do the engine mounts, plenty of independent specialists would do it for about £300 or less i reckon

Yeah, think I''ll do that if it comes to it!

Been reading conflicting accounts of replacing cambelt and how many engine mounts need to be removed. Some say one, some say two.

Start another thread I think....

Ok, so according to Audi it's the o/s and n/s engine mounts that are causing the problem.
They say they have changed both and the knocking has gone.

As for the cost, they say that as I can't prove the noise was not there before they did the cam belt change, and they can't prove that it was (but say there is no way they could have caused the problem) they will only charge me for the parts as a "goodwill gesture".

Soooo... they want £140 for doing the two engine mounts.

Pay, or not to pay???
Think I'll just pay it with no more arguments.
Car is coming up to 6 years old, mounts never changed, suppose it was needed sooner or later, and getting the two done for £140 is cheap.

Still a bit annoyed though.
