Hi
Im in west yorkshire and just got myself a 2007 a3 sline 2.0tdi

The cars been losing coolant. It goes from the max line to the min line in around a week. Doing about 200 miles a week

What can i do to sort this?
Who in west yorks is good to take it to?
How much can this cost?

Theres no visible leaks so im thinking maybe head gasket?
Theres a bit of white smoke on cold start up

Help appreciated

Favourite problems for this model are the EGR cooler or less likely Head gasket failure when loosing coolant. You will see a little white smoke/steam when driving from cold for a few minutes, that's normal.
Hopefully someone will advice you of a local garage soon.

Have you checked the oil filler cap and dipstick for signs of mayo?
That would be a good starting point where HG issues are concerned.

Have a look at the Vcd's map and see if there are members close to you and if there is a few PM them asking advice about what garage or Vag specialists they use

No mayo in oil cap, dipstick or in coolant. How can an egr cooler fault be diagnosed?

I was loosing a similar amount. Had the water pump changed when I had the cam belt done and not lost a drop since.

Might be that?

Hello buddy. I have the same problem with mine too. I also just had new turbo fitted as mine blown and shortly after there was a loud whooshing so we thought it might of been the egr cooler also. I bought one off the audi owners Facebook group but when we went to do the job turned out a boost hose had gone on the turbo so replaced. Still losing coolant thoigh and debat8mg whether to use this egr cooler I have because like you no sign of mayo anywhere. New turbo starting to over boost again now.
Just posting this as be nice to know what you find and I will do the same. Mechanic also pressure tested mine and everything was ok and he thinks head gasket could be on its way just not gone yet. I hope not as not gonna be cheap regardless. I hope the head ain't cracked either. I have exactly same motor as you so yeah let's see how it goes. I might drive as is for now and just see what happens.
By the way audi want 350 for new egr lol. If it's not mine you can ha e this one for 40 notes

I bought an A3 2.0 TDi about 6 weeks ago and had the same problem as you, small amount of coolant going missing and a bit of white smoke from the exhaust, which got worse over time. It was obvious the coolant was getting into the oil somehow.

From research I found it could be one of 3 things...EGR Cooler, Oil Cooler or Cylinder Head Cracked.

I took off the EGR Cooler and Oil Cooler and pressure tested them, there were no leaks. So it had to be a cracked head.

I took the cylinder head off and sure enough there were two cracks between the valves. I would image it would still pass a leak down test on the head, as the cracks were quite small, but enough to cause big problems.

I've just finished changing the cylinder head, but am yet to start it up as I am waiting for a couple more gaskets, etc to finish the job.

I hope it's not the Cylinder head in your case, but it sounds remarkably similar to my issue.

If you take the lid of the coolant expansion tank and get someone to give it a decent rev as you look inside you will see small bubbles in there if the head is cracked or the head gasket has gone...but as there is no mayo and it's not overheating I would say it's 90% cylinder head cracked if you've got bubbles in there.
