Lowering my A3, Any Advice???

What sort of drop would I be able to do on my car without it going rock bottom?

I was thinking about 40 - 50mm as I have got 18"s on it at the moment, would that be enough?

Well im gonna go about 50-60mm on my 18'' wheels too, if u want the no gap in arch look then 50mm+ my friend will do the job, search jom coilovers there under £200 made in germany with 2 year guarantee and have pretty good feedback on them, think they go as low as 75mm, im hopefully getting a set in about month

Thanks, 50mm it may be then which will do the job, will it rub on the arches etc etc?

I dont really fancy the JOM's. Gonna go for FK Highsports as been speaking to Ash B and he runs them and likes them. Or I may save a little bit more and go for the KW v1 Basics

Not sure at the moment but will get them researched and bought and fitted before my birthday on 23rd September.

Worse case get sum spacers for the front and back I. E 10mm front and maybe 15-20mm bk, if it rubbs bad which I doubt on 50mm then worse case take the rear arch lining screw out all fails get the inner lipp of the arches shaved £25 per corner these are all worse case scenarios but as said 50mm should be fine

I hope 50mm will be ok and I wont have to make any modifications at all to my wheel arch or lining etc.

I'm getting Jom coil overs after my wedding next month £180 with 2 year guarantee I'm on a budget but don't care long as it looks nice be going on my 60 plate s line currently got 18" bbs reps but gonna go for the "no gap in arch look" : p

Where are you getting them from? need some 'No gappage' on my S-Line!

Dpm mate bloke on here sells them Damien ! However ..... After reading loadsa feed back in really cheap coil overs think I'm gonna spend the extra and try and get a set of coilies for about £500 ish to hopefully have less hassle

Nice 1 ! would love to see it when it's done :)

Yeah I will post up some pics once it has been done, just a quick question do you think a 50mm drop all around will be ok? I dont want to have to mess with the wheel arches etc etc. Just want to get them fitted, lowered and not have to do anything else.

Bailey

Look what turned up today after a 2 week wait:

Hi Mate!
bet your excited!
50 is OK... I had some issues when i had my 19" VMR's on the rears but after going for 18" it was ok.
I did have to get AMD do tune my coils though as remember when we meet... the setting was rock hard... great for nice bendy roads but hard on your back.... now i got it set just right :)

Will 50mm be ok for everyday driving through the city and speedbumps etc etc? Yeah the ride was so stiff ( dont wana sound g*y here lol )

I had FK coiliovers on my a3 sportback tdi s line dropped a lot lol ride was okai till popped the fuel cooler, ive now got Eibach shocks and springs, best thing i ever did, lowered 30mm lower than s line suspension, handling is brillaint, no rubs and looks sweet!

Basically on my sportback its under the drivers sill, looks like an intercooler, i hit a ditich on the motorway, came to a halt half hour later, absolutely puzzled mate, had just put in 60 fuel so thought i had fuel in the car when it had just peed out. After that i put in the shicks and springs and highered it up a touch, so its not low as to scrape the bottom anywhere

Oh dear that's not good mate, so you think 50mm might be too much of a drop? Mine is only a SE model though so it sits higher than the S Line as standard!

Finally had my coilovers fitted yesterday and had the camber & alignment done too. I dropped it 50mm all around, I have uploaded a few piccys here so please see what you think to it?

Sits much nicer now mate, how you finding the ride? Spoiler next?

Im not sure if the camber was adjusted they just did it all for me and set it all up.

Thinking its sitting a lot better now thanks, I definitely want an S Line spoiler but they are like gold dust and cant be found anywhere.

If anyone has one here that would be amazing.

Cheers

Bailey

Looks tons better!

With regards to the spoiler, search on eBay for whole tailgates. There's often a couple of them with the spoiler on, so you could drop the seller a message seeing if they'll split.

Thanks for the comments guys, really appriciate it. I think it looks sick now! Yeah defo gonna look for a s line spoiler so ill try and do what you said leeds2592. Managed to take a couple more photos yesterday whilst driving around and took one parked up at work today.

Looks good, your car is virtually the same as mine. Think i need to get myself some coilovers but my Flywheel comes first atm.

Any plans for the wheels? I have the same style wheels on mine which i just bought but they're 8.5J and would look perfect with your ride height etc....

P.S Nice Yellow Porsche in the background!
