Hey guys

Been a while since I posted on here but I need some advice. Booked my A4 into an independent specialist on Friday because a (very) occasional electrical problem has now transitioned to a pretty much permanent electrical problem.

Currently not working:
  • Indicators/Hazards
  • Exterior lights (excluding dipped beam and brake lights)
  • Windscreen wipers/washers
  • Backlights on dash (excluding needles), centre console and all switches/buttons
  • Horn
Everything else still works; central locking, remote boot unlock, windows (including opening/closing from key fob), radio, heater, main passenger cabin lights, boot lights, etc.

From what I've read online there are three (main) possible causes for this; a faulty ignition switch, or water damage to either the Onboard Power Control Unit (The one below the steering wheel (Convenience Module?)) or the Central Electronics Module (in the passenger side footwell).

Basically what I want to know is does this sound about right? Are the names for the modules correct? I don't want to go into the specialists sounding like a complete tool that could be ripe for ripping off (not that I'm suggesting the specialist would of course, but I'd rather not go in sounding like I haven't got a clue.)

I realise I could probably change these things myself but I haven't got the time (or if I'm honest the inclination) to faff around with the electrics. Anything mechanical I'll give a go - I've got to replace the drivers side window regulator and the front wheel bearings soon - but I'm just fed up with this and want it sorted.

Thanks in advance!

Any damp in or around under the pedals or clocks / fusebox. The electrical box on the left at the back looking into the open engine bay has a seal that fails and drips water onto the fusebox inside the car under the dash.

Again, not that I can feel. As typical the electrics have been absolutely fine today and, less than 12 hours before its due to go the specialists, it still is! Not even a flicker from any of the lights, nothing. Hopefully, fingers crossed, that is a sign that nothing is permanently damaged (like any of the modules) and the fix is going to be "relatively" simple.
