Matt’s Defender Build Thread.

Nice new bus mate!

My Brother in law has one too, couldn’t understand why at first. But now he’s had it over a year I can see the practicalities of them. Gets the 3kids in it plus 5 bikes in the back. Can get his motorbike in it and makes the ideal cheap wkend getaway with the awning and double bed in back.

Currently got DPF issues with his just now though.

Enjoy.

afraid not, its the 150.....which from talking to a few 204 owners the mpg is hardly any different, 75mph motorway cruising is giving me 28-30mpg, same as what the landy was getting doing 65mph.

Poor MPG " A brick doesnt fly through the air without a lot of effort " lol nice colour though....,Metallic Grey will hide all the paint defects perfectly......no need for the master to go anywhere near it lol........

Merry Xmas lol

Matt I understand the practicality of a van, but I loved that Landy, it was special, especially with all the work you put into it. I trust she found a good home.

To all, have a festive Covid season

Hope you've had a good christmas!

So the van! It's a 2019 T6 t32 Kombi Highline SWB, 150bhp 7dsg.
Tailgate, comfort dash, captain seats, split rear bench, front and rear sensors + camera, heated seats, heated screen, electrically assisted closing doors.

Picked the van up looking very basic.

First job was to fire the 20s and roof rails on, because you know...roof rails. It looked ridiculous on 20s without being lowered.20200822 143454 copy 567x318

Next up it went to a body shop to get the sportline bumper and rear spoiler fit. A big improvement.
20200826 191643 copy 567x1008

It then went on to be sound deadened, insulated, carpet lined, lights and speakers fitted along with a leisure battery and swivel bases on the front seats.

I then moved on to doing a very basic and simple fitout for my trips to Scotland hillwalking.
Bought a plywood shelf kit and painted it up, made a bench/slide out bed and curtains. That's where I'm up to so far.

Just waiting for the shops to open again tomorrow and I'll be taking out the third seat and building a removable kitchen unit of sorts!

yeah i loved the landy, still did but i've learnt from the S3 to not get too hung up on a car....its just a car, so the van will let me focus on the walking more and save a lot of faff!
Went to a fisherman in cumbria!

OH! how could I forget, the lowering of the van. I was undecided for a long while whether to go cheap with lowering springs or splash out on coilovers.
After considering the roads this van will spend its time on mostly, Lake District, Yaaarrksha Dales and the Highlands I opted for Bilstein B14 coilovers and I'm glad I did, handles very well now, rear is a fixed height which is basically tucking the wheel and the front is adjustable.

Also fitted Lazer ST4 lights in the front grill, I hate driving in the dark without proper lighting now. Also in the process of changing the headlight bulbs to Osram LEDs as I hated the poor looking halogen bulbs that came on the van...wish I had the fancy oem LED headlights!
Bus1 3

- I still have mudflaps and side bars to fit to the van, and possibly a front splitter

yeah its a shame i couldnt really find a van with them at the time, im a sucker for DRLs!
At the time of searching I was originally after a bamboo green one with LEDs, bad to find so went for grey with LEDs, also bad to find so just went with a decent spec in general. I could buy a pair of the headlights and get them fit....but its ~£1200 for them without fitting :sadlike:
