Anyone tried mirroring their Android device onto their MMI screen?

Seen something called 'carplay' but they seem to specialise in Apple products.

I read somewhere you can do this with the AMI port, anyone know if this is rubbish?

I have retrofitted CarPlay into my car as had no sat nav, bluetooth etc. There is an option on there for Android (Android Auto) but they said the android side of things isn’t as stable as the apple CarPlay but haven’t got an Android so can’t comment. My install hasn’t been without complications but they have been helpful with any questions I’ve had. 10 times better than what I had anyway.

There are 2x options showing up but not sure what the difference is...maybe someone with an Android can help you out there.

Trying to get Google maps on the screen although I suspect I will need to have a dedicated phone in the glove box to have it working.

I don’t even have MMI or AMI port, mine is through Aux cable with everything connected centrally to a box unit which I have above my glovebox. Kit purchased from Unique Auto Developments. I can get google maps, stream music, make calls, use voice recognition. It’s really good for the price in comparison to what I seen someone had paid to do a ‘proper’ job with all of the OEM parts. Like I said, it hasn’t been without problems, but eventually getting there with support from the company (already received an update to improve the wireless connectivity.

Is it easy to fit?

Is it this?

Looks very similar... this is the 1 I got (https://unique-ad.co.uk/product/audi-a4-carplay-box/). If you like doing things yourself it’s not that bad, all plug & play so just unplugging factory wires, adding new 1s then plugging originals back into them. I also fitted reverse camera which was a little bit more invasive but on the whole it took about 3.5hours. I made all wires were hidden so took longer to route everything.

Nice one Briceportier; dedicated Android systems there too.

Pity they need to be sent from China. Customs charges are an extra sting in the tail for sure.

Received 3 so far (in Madrid) and never got hit with any import tax.
I'd think that you should get through the net in the UK as well, till the dreaded 29/03 at least... after this it's anyone's guess what's gonna happen...
