I still have a haldex contoller and set of wheels left over from an mk1 S3 that I sold on. Have been considering a mk1 TT for quick commuting rather than using an A4 avant 4x4. Bearing in mind the S3 & TT share the same running gear. Would the handling characteristics be comparable after the usual upgrades....ie. remap, ARBs, Susp, poly bushes.....

The rear is the same. On the front the TT has cast suspension arms with adjustable camber via slots in the ball joint mounting. There were changes to the TT to tone down the handling after several fatal high speed crashes. Main cause of these accidents is the shape of the rear, causes lift at high speed 100mph + which is why all cars had rear spoilers fitted and these other mods.
Part of those changes included modifying the front bush on the control arm. Do a Google search for the Defcon or Cookbots.
