Hello people can someone recommend the best and cheapest oil for my gearbox. 2004 A4 2.5 V6 (BDG) Multitronic (GHZ)

Is it even recomended using any other oil than Audi's own brand (G052180A2)

Thanks

Given how fragile these things are, I wouldn't trust anything other than genuine Audi ATF in my Multitronic gearbox..

I know what you mean but i was under the impression it was because of the oil or lack of changes that caused the problems. I know there will be other problems but from what i can read apart from the clutch or torque convertor whatever its called most problems was due to the oil so was wondering if there is a better brand of said oil.

Just to give you some insight:

If this is the ZF 6HP Gearbox (I work for ZF by the way), then you can either purchase the oil from TPS/VAG at a premium, or purchase in the aftermarket (same oil) under its original branding on ZF Lifeguard Fluid 6. (ZF Manufacture majority of Audi Automatic Gearboxes) Along with this, you would be best to do a full service with change of filter and seals(can buy a complete kit for typically 150-200 quid depending on spec).
By failing to service any of the ZF 6HP (6 speed) gearboxes, you will be prone to mechanical breakdown and terminal failure of components. ZF officially recommend 50,000-70,000mile service intervals on this gearbox.

However if this is the Audi manufactured box, then id recommend you purely purchase the oil from Audi, since they manufacture the box in this scenario.

If you need any info please just drop me a line, cheers.

Hi, and thank you for the reply. I am not sure what box is in the car i only have the gearbox code of GHZ and a part number off audi of G052180A2 for the oil. I have scanned the car with VCDS and looked at the transmission section but I cant see any referance to ZF 6HP in VCDS

Hi,
this part number is available on the aftermarket and we stock it made in Germany. It's 100% for the CVT gearbox and we have sold hundreds of litres to the independent specialist across the road. It's not Lifeguard 6 btw as we also stock that. Give me a shout if you need more advice here.
Kind regards
Jason

Thanks, the more i read tho the more issues im coming across lol

For starters, looking at aftermarket G052180A2 from various companys and it appears it comes in 2 colors, red and yellow.

Does anyone know what color the OEM G052180A2 cvs oil is, what they use in audi cause thats where it has been serviced in the past?

Can we mix oil colors? use yellow and red at the same time?

Altho there is plenty of aftermarket CVT oil that matches the G052180A2 is still want to know are they any better than the OEM stuff from audi? Is there any better performing oils, longer lasting, more friction, better cooling and so on. The OEM G052180A2 oil is an old product are the newer aftermarket oils better in any way? I know its a bit of a specific question but hoping someone will know lol

First tho i need to know what color the OEM stuff from audi is, supose i could loosen the drain plug a little and see what color it is but its easier to ask lol

Hi Rizla,
Honestly I think you're making (and I mean this in the nicest way:) ) a simple situation complicated. There's one correct spec that you need to worry about for the oil and that is VAG's. If it's good enough for VAG to still spec it that's good enough for anyone. Here's the correct stuff made in Germany and there's a pdf document too.
http://www.allgermanparts.co.uk/Automatic-Transmission-Oil/FEBI-BILSTEIN/27975,101.html. Have a look and that should answer everything you need. If others are making the oil they'll all be looking to VAG's specification to match it. Give me a shout if you need some help.
