Have been getting low battery warnings for a while now, what with lockdown / dash cam / etc and not even the the mighty Noco Genius could revive the OEM Varta battery to a state I was happy with.

Ordered from Tayna batteries yesterday, delivered by 11.30 today, great service if you ask me.

Will be on the car this afternoon.

May do a quick fitting guide if anyone’s curious.

You won't be surprised to hear Sean that I blew a fuse when trying to jump start a flat battery on an old Impreza of mine *whistles*

I'd be interested to know how to properly code the battery if you fancy a write up :)

I'd lso be interested to know what your standing voltage is with the fancy new battery. I'm a bit baffled at how low mine sit (11.8v) and that seems to be pretty normal with the stock battery from what I can gather?

In the Boot.

Undo the negative side first and push it to one side.

Next undo the positive but don’t try to pull it off yet.

Loosen the clamp bolts

A magnetic pick tool is good for retrieving the nuts

Remove the top strap

You can then remove the metal clamp plate

And now can slide the battery over to the right a little to give enough room to remove the positive connection and plastic cover attached to it, *tip*-pull the plastic box out to the left then gently up to remove it and the positive terminal, it has a tab that locates under the battery side.

Lift out the old battery, withdrawing the drain tube as you go.

Put in the new battery and insert drain tube into the hole.

Clip in the positive terminal and black box then tighten the connection up.

Put the bracket back in and refit the left hand nut (a magnetic pick up is handy to start it on the thread here)

Refit the plastic shield on top of the new battery

Put the strap back on over the battery and refit the nuts then tighten down.

Reconnect the earth/ negative and tighten

You should end up with this.

The box below you could just put zeros in I’m told as new batteries don’t com with BEM numbers.
I put in the Varta ref number off the new battery

Standing voltage is now 12.45 (and was rising). Up from 11.80 of the old battery

Thanks @T-1000 good write up once again, and really interesting on the VCDS adaptations. Curious how to know if a batter is Fleece or not?

That's a really good improvement in standing voltage. Makes me wonder if mines on its way out.

I rang the supplier as there’s a Binary-AGM option in the drop down menu, however after a discussion with my mate Alex I left it as Fleece as it was.

Just been out to the car again to measure standing voltage, it’s still 12.45 and appears to rise from that figure the longer you wait.

Better than the old battery which only went down.
