New RS3 Owner!

Hi People, Iv'e been on here a while with my old or new? A3 1.8 TFSI 8V but that's gone and has been replaced with the RS3

The car really is superb in every aspect, This is my 3rd A3, I went from a 8p 2.0 tdi 170 to a new shape 8V 1.8 TFSI (180) and after seeing the RS3 I couldn't resist!

It does everything so well and really is the perfect car! You have practicality & performance all rolled into one stunning looking car!

Iv'e already added the Miltek secondary bypass but that's as far as I think I'll be going mod wise , I was shocked how cheap they are to insure considering I'm 20, I paid £800 to insure a 1.8 TFSI 8V A3 and the RS3 is only £200 more? ! My Clio Trophy was £1400!

With regards to Insurance I noticed that the RS3 was a lot cheaper than my TTRS I think it's down to the number they made meaning there's less idiots to write them off but I don't know insurance is screwed up these days computers not common sense living people. Anyway back to the car what plans do you have for him/her?

I did want a TTRS but the insurance was alot more and I need a decent sized car for work really!

It's staying pretty standard other than the Cat bypass as otherwise insurance shoots up, I want to remap it but again with insurance & possible warranty issues it's not really worth it + Its plenty fast enough for UK roads anyway.

Funny thing is I bought it as it's such a rare car but in the 2 weeks iv'e had it i must have seen about 4!

Excellent pictures, great choice with the RS3. There were no cars like this when I was 20 and insurance on anything decent was almost as much as the value of the car! Anyway enough of memory lane.

I agree with you for the road there is no need for the remap, those decat pipes sound good though.

haha i hate people like this ah i bet daddy or mummy bought it for you maybe he paid for it himself saved up for ages or maybe hes on finance i that ever a option??? just see his age and the car and instantly think oh they must have a well off daddy who paid for that.

Also insurance depends on alot of different things it might be his own insurance with his dad and mum listed as named drivers? or he could live in a remote place with low crime which would bring the insurance down. insurance takes loads of stats into account.

I say good luck to him and enjoy the RS3. I only wish cars like this were around 20 years ago and I'd had the money for one! If I could have I would have. I had to wait for the Scooby to arrive in my mid 20s for my first properly quick car, before that 150bhp 306 GTi-6 was as quick as it got. How times change - for the better!

But you've the 'original' brake discs cotball and you're due a FREE replacement under the "improvement" to the AUDI RS3 braking system that is NOW being applied, on request, to ALL RS3's and TTRS's.

Here's the Update Code detail:
Update-Code: 47i6
Released: 2. April 2013
Vehicules: RS3 und TTRS, alle MJ
Countires: all
Description: on complaint
a) brake caliper and pads: 8P0 698 996
b) brake disks: 8P0 615 301 B

So go check the brake disc part number and if it's 8P0 615 301 then you need to get them changed at an Audi dealer for 8P0 615 301 B (the 'B' suffix being the identifying mark).

Along with the new brake discs you'll be getting NEW brake calipers and brake pads and a software upgrade.

MAKE SURE to bed the NEW pads in correctly: go to thread "You've guessed it! The return of brake squeal AFTER Audi fix" and see post #21

I haven't noticed much brake squeal, You get the odd bit but that's fairly normal IMO.

The one thing I have noticed which is worrying is the wet weather brake delay!! The day after i collected the car I went down to a car show with about 50 clio's, Every time we came to a stop there was no braking power unless i really forced the pedal down. It looks like this is part of the problem?

Yep thats the real problem.

Give Audi CS a polite call and tell them about the delayed braking.
You'll get replacements sorted easily and as 45bvtc says then bed them in correctly, couple of high speed stops to generate plenty of heat and de-glaze.

Top tip - try and seal your alloys before new brakes as the new pads generate alot of brake dust as they would!

Audi has responded to technical problems with the brakes at the top models Audi RS3 and TT RS offers a free brake replacement on a modified brake system.

When customers complain about delayed braking in the wet, jerking, loud squeaks and high wear half years, the manufacturer has redesigned the brake system on both models. Stephan Reil, Head of Development at quattro GmbH in Neckarsulm, where RS3 and TT RS will be built, and Florian Heuberger, Head of Technology at Audi service, announced in Auto Motor und Sport that the holders of the affected vehicles can replace the brakes for free. Affected up to 5,700 models of type RS3 from model year 2011 and 6100 TT RS from model year 2010.

Exchange of parts availability from March "All customers will be helped - free," assured Quattro Manager Reil against auto motor und sport. Modified Audi has the caliper and the pads to eliminate squeaks and most frequently occurring primarily at low speed when braking. The delay in braking effect when wet Audi wants to get through a software update in the handle. "One since June 2012 and employed in the service aufspielbares ESP update increases the frequency, the brake pads are always easily applied to the wheels with the after turning on the windshield wiper in order to displace splash," said Reil, head of development at Quattro. To reduce the thermal load on the RS3-brake, an air permeable pinhole is easy on since June 2012 right in the front apron installed, which is also upgradeable.

Into series production, the changes in the coming weeks will also be accepted. However, the exchange in the workshops could "depending on the availability of parts at least until the end of March or even longer extend" estimates Heuberger. No action lies against the Audi wear. "According to our specifications, the brake pads last about 30,000 kilometers the discs reach double the mileage -. Provided proper treatment"

If I may ask, i've just bought a 2008 s3 and my insurance is sky high (but worth it) how have you managed to get your insurance so cheap? A lot of companies wouldn't even tempt the idea of insuring me :/

When your renewal is due try Priviledge, I'm 22 and only paying just under £800 for the year fully comp!

Couldn't beleive it when I phoned to change from the S3 and they told me it was cheaper!! It's got a lot to do with your postcode, as with you I live in quite a remote area..oh and the Cobratrak brings your premium down slightly to!
