Hey all,

I've just recently joined (have already introduced myself on the welcoming thread), after just purchased a 2007 S3 8P and I have a few questions, which I would like your thoughts on.

First question is when I start the engine, and especially when I lift the hood, the engine sounds like a diesel and is pretty loud, I bought it from an Audi Specialist, so can't imagine it to be a cause for concern (especially since I still have warranty) but wanted to know if this is as expected. I wasn't sure as I've not had a four-cylinder turbo before.

Secondly, where can I get some genuine Audi parts and accessories at less than dealership prices? Not looking for anything large at the moment (although could do with a new door arm rest as there is a split/cut in it at the moment).

Finally, did S3's come with the storage compartment under the passenger seat (I have one under the drivers) and first aid kit? I do some driving on the continent and so am looking to get a first aid kit from Audi, that hopefully fits into the storage compartment (assume that's where it's kept normally?).

That's all I have for now! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum hope you find what you are looking for, just be patient or try using the search forum to look for older posts may be helpful.

Finding cheap OEM audi parts isn't easy unless you looking at second hand or breakers atc. Always check ebay first or the classified/wanted thread here. Stoke audi have a website which is usually pretty reasonable. There are also some retrofit websites that may have what you need.

Not sure on the storage compartment I've only ever had them on the drivers side.

Does anyone know the part number for the first aid kit that fits under the drivers seat?

Yes, these engines can be quite clattery, especially when cold.

Have a look at the Stoke Audi section of this forum front page, they are forum sponsors.

You can try TPS as well for parts I always find there cheaper than dealers and will normally price match on oem items.

Yes the older ones sound like diesels on idle, (mine does A3 2.0T also) i was told by a reliable source that it is because the diesel injection style was a more efficient way so they implemented it on the petrols also. Something about because the injectors are right near the spark plug or summit, cant remember, but yes mine sounds like a tractor when i start it!

Thanks guys, reassuring to hear that the excessive engine noise is as expected! Have already requested a price on a couple of bits from Stoke Audi, just waiting for hear back from them.

I've just bought a replacement arm rest for my door as mine suffered from the same thing... I bought mine from TPS and it cost me £66 all in.... Hunted for a good 2nd hand 1 for months with no luck, they are like hens teeth... So thats probably your best bet... And yes the 2.0tfsi is quite a diesel sounding engine on tickover

Welcome to the forum! Pictures of the car? My S3 engine sounded quite tappy when idling, after speaking to a few pretty knowledgable tuners I was led to believe it was down to the fact direct injection is used on the TFSI engine.

Tay, haven't had chance to take any photos yet, will try and get some done this weekend and post them up! Was a little surprised when I first started it up, thought something was wrong!

S3_Jacko, have been looking for one too but have read its a common problem so I guess there aren't many out there in good condition, meanwhile Audi must be making a killing selling them new! Was it difficult to replace? I read you have to take the whole door card off? I think I'd like to tinker with my motors, but haven't had the balls yet to carry out something like this before!

Yeah mate its a door card off job and unscrewing the switches and the armrest... I'm quite handy with that so its a relatively easy job to do... All depends on your confidence and skill level tho...

If you take it somewhere for them to do it, I wouldnt let them charge you anymore than £20 to change it... Literally a 15-20 minute job
