I am coming up to needing some new tyres.I have rang round for some prices and i spoke to a guy in my local tyre centre and he tells me i need Audi fitment tyres otherwise i will viod my warranty im thinking hes just trying to have my eyes out.He told me there is a marking on the tyres AO and this means that they are Audi fitment.I have never heard of this before, i have just been out and checked and the code on the tyres is 245 40 18 93Y and code AO is on all 4 tyres. Can anyone shed any light on this for me as i have prices for normal tyres from £77 upwards but for specialist AO tyres the cheapest i can find is £245 as they have to be branded.

Thanks

Andy

True, some tyres are an audi fitment, but theyre only an 'approved' tyre. Its a load of ******** really. The main thing to watch for is the load rating, and extra load/reinforced.You should really have 96y tyres, as they are extra load which youll need on a tdi.Best place ive found online is

Car Tyres Online: Cheap | TyreTraders

You dont need AO tyres!!!

Cheers Johny but why should i have 96Y tyres? If the tyres i have on now (are from new)are AO audi approved (factory fitted) then surely the loading would be correct???

Of course, but id personally have the heavier load tyre. But then which brand? Was a real headache for me when i changed.Supplied with bridgestone re050's, changed to goodyear F1 assym...great grip but soft sidewall (more roll) sold on ebay, then conti sport contact 3 again soft sidewall and shyte compared to the sc2's, sold on ebay...i ended up with bridgestone s001's, which also have a softish sidewall, but im happy with the wet and dry performance. Some guys swear by michelins, vredsteins etc its a personal thing.good luck!!

wish i had your size,price up some 255 35 19 and take a seat!!

I am thinking of Michelin PS3s on mine seems to be the best all round tyre grip and life.

I had PS2's on my first S3 and then PS3's on the second. Both were very good tyres.

There is also a PSS which is reported to be pretty good.

Guys,

Am approaching a tyre change too and am baffled with how many options are out there... Naturally I want the best I can afford to be honest but no idea about soft wall, hard wall etc. Appreciate what that means but doesnt help me decide! Secondly not looked at my rears but on a quattro should I change all four corners at the same time or was it the last garage I visited trying one one?

Thanks

Phil

I have just had a reminder from Audi that my fronts need changing...£625 - £777 for two depending on the make of tyre I go for, obviously Michelines being the more expensive. Their recommendation was Goodyear, but I am not sure. Has anyone had PZeros. I have Contact 3's on the back at present, but I am not too sure about them.

19" Pzeroes on mine (a4 saloon), original backs fine @ 22k miles, fronts replaced at 11k, need replacing soon at just over 20 though so considering a change to ps3's (from what others seem to favour) and hopefully get slightly better life out of them. Would be interested if anyone has tried both?

I bought Pilot Sport 3's through Car Tyres Online: Cheap | TyreTraders and the great thing was the fitting station was within 2 miles of the house. The only gripe I had was that the guy was adamant that the new tyres should go on the front rather than the back, and in the end I gave up and allowed him to take the easy option.

In some ways, it was good because it allowed me to try the new tyres out on the front. I didn't try them in the wet, but in the dry they performed really well; the only problem was, the car was still noisey. So after a week I swapped the PS3's to the back and put the Contact 3's on the front. What a transformation, we can actually hear each other speak again! With the Contact 3's on the front, they are not rubbish, but they are not as good as the PS3's...and they are noisier.
