OEM BRAKE PADS FOR THE 8P RS3 - January 2019

1) Having had the low-speed brake-squeal issues with the original brake pads, and then the same with the 47i6 upgraded OEM brake pads, I went EBC Redstuff and found an immediate improvement - all details previously posted here on ASN. However, over recent months I've found the low-speed 'bite' of the EBC Redstuff getting less than I'd like - and as I'd had similar with my previous S3 I am mindful and suspicious of the situation/characteristics of Redstuff...

2) The recent Stafford Audi day allowed back-to-back driving of the: A1, S4, RS5, Q5, SQ5, Q8, and others and ALL on OEM brake pads; the braking on each was superb, couldn't fault 'em at all; hmmm!

3) Our TT and A1 are on OEM brake pads and zero issues, can't fault 'em; hmmm!

4) I wonder how much/little I can get a NEW set of OEM Audi 8P RS3 pads...

So on investigation:

a) Purchased a set of OEM 47i6 directional pads (8J0 615 115K and 116K) from partsdepot_uk (Crewe) for £149.99 delivered and the parts on arrival check out with ALL OEM identifications and checked against my stored original pads.

b) Purchased a set of OEM rear brake pads (1KO 698 451K) from audiparts_stafford for £24.99 delivered and the parts on arrival check out with ALL OEM identifications and checked against my stored original pads.

c) Interestingly, the front pads from audiparts_stafford and/or the rear pads from partsdepot_uk were double the price, so me thinks some stock reduction may be taking place.

5) I'll be fitting 'em over the weekend (Brembo/Mitsubishi anti-squeal shims with the front pads) and bedding 'em in appropriately and then evaluate against 'used' Redstuff.

OEM brake pads are currently available at the above prices...

Watching with interst John, the red stuffs are serving me well with reduced/ little brake dust and also no worry the pins that rivet the Audi Oem pad material to the backing plates will trash the rotors before the pad warning sensor activated.

Totally 100% amazed at the difference Paul; 3-hours to change all 4-corners and polish the wheel rims, and 10-minues to complete 10 x 60 to 10mph decelerations, and the brakes now feel equally as good as any of the new Audi cars we drove last Sunday at Stafford Audi.

It was after the ASN meeting I thought jeeze, where are my 'low' speed brakes. OK, motorway/A-road work was fine but slow-speed, oops! Thinking back the Redstuff on my S3 went the same way, loss of slow-speed 'bite'. The brakes on the RS3 are now as our TT and A1, brilliant for our 'usual' back-and -forth to Stafford runs.

It'll be some time before I'll have rivet issues, Paul, and for sure I'll be watching 'em close!

Very, very true, Paul, watch this space... I just thought it worth a try. Only issue I recall having with the original OEM pads was low-speed brake squeal and the remedy to that has been installed - and it isn't them darn 4 x REQUILL tuned absorbers...

But back to these OEM pads, back in 2013 I wrote: "Second service and 47i6 brake upgrade completed I drove away from Stafford Audi and onto fast but lightly loaded roads applying the bedding in process as safely as conditions allowed. It took less than 20-miles to be fair, and the changes/improvements from start to finish were dramatic; the brakes are as good now as they were on the original set-up but are now: a) much quieter in application, and 2) amazingly dust free. Interestingly, the temperature build-up and 'bite' can be felt in application, neat!"

Oh yes, since early December on ALL three. No snow here yet but a couple of early morning sub 0º runs to the hospital in the A1 on TOYO Snowprox, amazing front end 'bite' on these tyres in low temp conditions - I do have a couple of tight bends in which to push-on some...

But you've had some white stuff, right?

Oh yes, Friday spent half the day snow clearing to keep my employers site open after 4” or so overnight and through the day.
