Oil Change Frequency

My A6 is 18 months old with 8700 miles on the clock, mixed town and motorway driving. The car says it will need oil change and inspection in 6 months or at 10400 miles. Bottom line is that the car will not have had an oil change for 2 years by then which seems excessive . It’s a 3.o litre diesel. I also heard horror stories about this costing over £500 for two hours work at a dealer. Any thoughts , anyone?

2 years until first oil change is standard for most Audi models.
A service plan could be a good option, they had an offer a couple of months ago. I got one for a 2.0 tdi for 14.99 a month, covers a major service and an oil change.

With that mileage pattern you should be on the fixed service interval (oil change very 9000 miles and more extensive service every 18000). For cos doing more than 10k miles per annum you can be on the variable levels service which could see an Oil change at 18k miles or 2 years. the dealer is supposed to ask you when you order the car (or at least prior to collection) which service regime you want. Many will opt for the fixed mileage option regardless of their typical annual mileage or do an oil and filter change outside of the scheduled variable service regime

Mine had its first oil change at 15000 miles, it cost £360. I’m hoping I’ve got rid of it before it needs it’s next service as it’ll need gearbox oil change, brake fluid change and no doubt brake pads. It’ll cost north of £700.

Yep, the OP should be on a fixed 10k or 12 months service plan, whichever comes first. I mainly do town driving and my A6 went in for its first service (oil & filter change) at 9500 miles 2 weeks ago. Total cost was £205 at Highland Audi.

I agree but I’m keen for mine to get the latest software updates due to the multitude of faults it’s thrown since I’ve had it.

Audi dealers charge a rediculous amount for oil, some dealers will let you provide you rwon oif you ask and as long as it conforms to the appropriate VW certification.

Not always. My local VAG Specialist (Kenny's Autos, Inverness) charges more or less the same as the main Audi dealer in town (Highland Audi). Plus his secretary is always grumpy as hell

Personally,whether you need to stay in the network or not,I’d always go for an annual oil change. I think the service intervals are not in the best interests of longevity,not a problem for the first owner,but a ticking time bomb for subsequent owners

Mine is on the long life service as we tend to rack up the miles. Even with lockdown we have done 16k. I do carry out an oil and filter change myself between services though.
