Hi, Can anyone help me out here? Ive had my car for some time now and I seem to have my first problem with it! My oil light came on the other day, got home and let it stand for 6 hours, checked the oil and the dip stick level was bang in the middle, so I went to get a small top up oil from halfords and topped it up just in case. Yesterday I went to work and half way to work the oil light came back on! I let the car stand in work, after a 12 hour shilft checked the oil and it was just below the high level, just drove home and it didnt come on at all! Drove to work this morning and it was ok again, drove back just now and the oil light has come on again! I noticed this time that it did it in high revs when I was pulling off from a roundabout! Do you think its a faulty sensor or something else? Any help would be much appreciated.

Could be the oil pump on its way out!
Do a search on Oil Sludge on here, plenty of advice about.

Sounds like its oil sludge though in the Pick up pipe.
Oil aint getting to the top of your engine and eventually it'll start to sound tappy......then if you ignore it, wait for the big bang!!!
Happened to me as you see from other threads...

Basically get it booked in asap with your dealer/specialist.

What engine is it?year?

Its a 1.8t 52 my mrs just came back now and said its started to sound like a diesel

Oh dear, sounds like its oil starvation, oil aint getting to the top of your engine. right whatever you do dont drive it anymore mate. Get it booked in as soon as you can.
You'll need an Oil pump and pick up pipe, might be good to get your water pump done at the same time - kill 2 birds with one stone.

It happened to me and I ignored the first warning, 2nd was too late. Engine went bang and cost me over 3k for recon engine and new turbo fitted.

At a guess your looking at around £350 for the now oil pump and pick up pipe fitted.

Id say its 99% chance its the oil sludge issue/Oil pump.
See what they say.

Thanks for your advice mate, just been looking on the net now about what you said and its 100% that! Im going to have a day off tomorrow and figure out how im going to get the car to audi its about 30 miles from me! Do you think I could have done any engine damage now or turbo damage?

Yeah that would be a good choice.
Ask Audi how much they would charge to recover it (you never know) or if you have breakdown cover then use them if you have homestart or whatever its called (usually the lowest option doesnt include homestart)
If you have then tell them you just started you car but its not sounding good at all and you would like it taking to your Garage.

Obviously it'll get louder as its ran more but I couldnt really say whether you have damaged your head or not.

But from what you said about this morning then it started tapping this evening then id say you have probably got to it in time providing the mrs didnt do mega mileage whilst it sounding like a diesel!!!

The mechanic will be able to tell you whether there has been damage to the head or turbo. I doubt it though.
A new Pump/pipe and fresh Oil will fix it.
Dont know whether you have or not but if its on Longlife then scrap it and do regular oil services. Once its fixed you shouldnt have this problem again providing you maintain oil servicing say every 6k - 8k (thats what I do anyway).

Yeah just cross examined the mrs now and she said it sounded a bit like a diesel, ive got breakdown recovery with my insurance ill make out I was going to work and I noticed a noise! Ill see if they will take it to audi for me. j7uss thanks for all the advice and info mate its people like you which make this forum work top man!
p.s Im going to sell my car and buy a f***** horse!

:)!!Nice one.
No probs mate,anytime.
Let me know how you get on.

make sure mate that the car never ever gets ordinary mineral oil in it, as thats what causes this. Its meant to use fully synthetic oil only, mineral is no use and the two contaminate each other so adding mineral to synth will kill it fast as ****.

As soon as i read the thread title i thought about the dreaded oil slude blockage issue! Its the bain of the 1.8T engine and reason no.8 why i ended up with a 3.0 way back when! My little Smart Roadster only ever gets Mobil 1 put in here as recomended by Merc, being that it spends a lot of time at 6k+ rpm it needs the good stuff!!

Thanks for the tip evil and nicky, Audi had my car at 10.30 this morning and I phoned them at 2.30 pm and they told me they would ring me when there is any news about the car. Its now 8.10pm and I havent heard sh*t  about my car ha ha (cardiff audi come on):wtf:

That bugs me when they do that!
If I dont get a call by around 4ish, Im on the blower because its easy for them to ignore you and sometimes dont even look at your motor then feed you with pooh about they still looking at it.

Ring them first thing and tell them a courtesy call wouldnt go a miss.
You dont want any sleepless nights wondering what the damage/bill is going to be.

:gun2:

Well heres the news so far, I still havent got my audi back! They phoned me up yesterday to tell me that the oil pump has gone and the price was £422 and the service on top was an extra £266. I told them that I wasnt prepared to pay the extra £266 for the service because they would have been basically doing the same job again where the oil was concerned! They then agreed they would do the job and the service at a discount price of £550, so I agreed. Later on that day they phoned me again to say that they had hit a problem and they had trouble removing the 2 bolts which they said were rounded off and they wanted an extra £400 to move the gearbox and the fly wheel (what a pile of sh*t). The car has never had work done on it before so I told them my absolute words were that they are on drugs! They said they would get back to me which they did saying that they would pay half and I would have to pay the other half. I told them that this wasnt on they quoted me £550 and that is the price! I explained to them that I was a carpenter and that if I priced a kitchen for £4-5000 and then hit a small problem with a wall being out etc then I couldnt ask he people who I had already quoted for an extra couple of hundred quid to sort the problem because i'd already given the price! So I stuck to my guns and told them that if they wouldnt fix it for the price tha they had given me then I would have my car taken from there and go and buy a bmw cough! cough! They said they would get back to me and im still waiting!

tell them youll get trading standards and the RAC involved, see if that shifts them, if not then do so!!
