Alright guys, thought id finally get round to doing this as ive now finally started to get the car to a decent stage

the love affair started back in early March 2010 when i finally decided i wanted to change my car, after doing masses of hunting to find the spec that i was after i finally saw this one

with in a few days of seeing the add i was down at the dealer for a test drive, 2 hours later after a lots of haggling, threatening to walk out i signed on the line and payed my deposit

a week later on the 26th March i went and picked up my new toy

at this point i had said to myself that i wasnt going to touch it, it was perfect as it is.... later that week i joined ASN and the very very slippery slope started, first thing that went on was some pressed metal plates from dubmeister, really simple and cheap mod that means up the front no end, later that week, on went my '09 rear clusters the original ones were just too dated looking imo so off they went

the car stayed like this for about a month, and then my finger started itching again, this time i really wasnt sure what to do, i sort of knew it was going to get some more power so i found a deal on an Evoms CAI off John on here. it sounds amazing, sounds like got darth vader under the bonnet

come October i got the itch again and this time i wanted some proper power, i was originally of thinking of Shark Performance but a good friend of mine pointed me in the direction of Evolve Automotive based up in Luton, after a bit of a chat with them, got the car booked in for a stage 1 map and a cat back Milltek non res with special tips

car before, producing an average 285 bhp with the stock exhaust system

the car on the dyno at Evolve getting the full treatment and exhaust system now producing an much more healthy 319 bhp

the change in the cars peformance and noise was amazing and well worth the damage!

come november i was able to pick up some H&R springs and H&R spacer, so was off to AMD to get them slapped on, really helps sort out the stance, tho the mis-match on the springs to dampers can cause issues at hight speed... but thats on the list to fix lol

the next change was a right impulse buy, one of those late night on ebay things, a nice shiny set of TT air vents, oh so much nicer then the standard S3 ones that i just didnt like!

IMG_0636.jpg

IMG_0635.jpg

the next area that got some attention was the braking system, now the S3 set up isnt bad, but given a bit of abuse and it really cant cope, fades really badly! so had an opportunity to pick up a decent BBK for silly money so back to AMD for another change!

they were seriously warped when i got them, so got them skimmed and now all is good, tho finding new rotors and pads has been a right pain... but ive finally sourced some... from Italy lol so will be picking them up later in the summer

that was all back in February so its been a while, but now the weather has stated to heat up it was time that i did a little mod to my CAI to help fight some of the heat soak it suffers from, so on with some shinny tape... still needs finishing off, but just not had the time, but this is it so far

IMG_0809.jpg

and finally on friday i was able to get back down to Evolve for some my stage 2 software, so on with my new down pipe

IMG_0814.jpg

unfortunately i didnt get a chance to get it on the dyno, but im up in the area in a week or so, so will pop in and see what its now making... cant wait as its made a massive difference!

and comments, views or suggestions, be good to hear them and cheers for looking!

Cheers Nath

yea i know Fran, i was gutted that i ran out of time, but was one of those things, be interesting to see what it makes, need to get it on AMDs rollers as well for some more comparisons. just need to save some more cash and get my next back of plans into action

finally managed to give my car a good wash today, looks so much better haha!

yeah be interesting to see what she's running now , haha i inspired you did i dude with a that talk of detailing last night lmao

haha you did and it was a nice clear evening and i really couldnt be bothered with uni work lol, even got the metal polish out on the exhaust tips!

hey Paolo hows she feel? how long did it take for them to get the downpipe on?

alright mate
she feel so much stronger in the mid range, from 3k upwards really feel the shove in your back, and the noise is something else!
it was quite a while, was something like 2 1/2 - 3 hours which is why i ran out of time doh!
on the plus side when it gets on the dyno the map will have fully adapted so will get a more accurate reading

that wasn't too long they told me mine will take the whole day. did they drop the frame?

haha tell me about it, if i have time tomorrow ill be out there with the clay bar, then give it a quick wash, polish and then wax it... should keep me honnest for a few hours and then turn my attention to the interior, clean all the plastics, clean and condition the leather, a good days work so that may have to wait a bit lol
i really need to get a rotary polisher... can practice on my mum & dads car before i let myself loose on mine ;)

well its 2-3 hours for the dp, an hour for the back box so 4 hours tops for a full system, but as yours is a custom set up they may have to do some additional measuring, welding etc as they may not have a jig set up for it so can easily see it taking a day

got no idea, they didnt fit it on site, so didnt know it was ready till i heard my car pull up haha and you really can hear it coming!

ah glad to hear it mate look after it ive done it ever since i bought mine 3 and a half years ago it looks better now than when i bought it lol prb because the monkey who valteted it did a half a job on it with cheapo polishes and all that stuff

yea it needs some tlc, the front bumper could do with a re-spray, but that really can wait!
yea i dont plan on using cheap crap, got a decent start on bits already, but will have to get some more specialised bits for when i get the polisher and so some heavy research on pads, compounds etc, will help me pass some time over the summer lol

Nice writeup, very easy going & informative.

yeah man dont want to be using cheapo stuff on a car like yours , dodo juice is good stuff tho , yeah get some practice in bud its so easy to do more harm than good esp with a black car they are a nightmare for swirling and scratching

wow lovely great ,now i cant wait to getting modding,,down pipe looks amazing...great work Paolo and to top it all great guy always very helpful and full of info so now i can start my car ...

na really dont, well ive got autoglym stuff for the every day cleaning, which seems to do a pretty good job
i guess its important to take your time, not rush and dont push too hard, but sure my folks wouldnt mind for me to keep their cars shiny while i practice lol

cheers mate
i do try to help, ive bugged enough people on here over the last 15 months so like to give a little back
the down pipe was massive! i was really shocked at the size of it, but im generally not happy with milltek, both times they have mucked up my order which has caused me problems and run abouts, so that system will only be on there for 6-9 months tops before its changed to one with better quality and better flow rate
haha like i said its a slippery slope... but a good one!

no im sure they wont mine either mate lol

Nice work Paulo :) Good mods on an S3 started in the right places bro

cheers mate
yea the S3 is a good base to start with but problem is now ive run out of the cheaper mods... so any developments will take time while i save up for the wallet busters... dont suppose you fancy selling my your TT steering wheel for £20 ;) lol

Looking good paolo, i see you went for the straight decat and not the sports cat, must be thinking ahead, lol.

Alright Paul
yea it was recommended by Evolve so thought why not, also allows me the option of big turbo down the line which is a pretty big possibility haha

cheers bugsy
i need to sort the suspension as the mis match between the H&R springs and the OEM dampers is a liability at speed on anything other then race track smooth tarmac, so ill probably marry them up to some Bilstein B8 dampers as im happy with the ride height, then need to get a rear anti roll bar fitted to help dial out the under-steer.
then im not sure, will either be more power, new wheels or some interior treats, have to see what i feel like at the time...

haha yea i know ive been saying ill do it for ages, but thought id crack on last night lol
yea i know im really interested, think the guys up at evolve are as almost interested as me lol, roll on the 30th and then ill know!

I know you have lol. But you did say once stage 2 you would do one. Lol haha make sure you update this thread once you know.
Whats next on the list? Stage 2 + or those light weight alloys?

haha i did and it was done with in 24 hours, yea as soon as ive got the graph ill get it uploaded, i already know it will show less then the numbers off AMDs rollers, but thats down to the fact they use a dyno dynamics at evolve, and they are well known to come up low, but are meant to be very very accurate, so who really knows, ill need to et it down to AMD at some point for a comparison... the wonders of teh dyno lottery lol
na next is suspension, had a very long chat with the guys on friday and have suggested a few things that challenged my previous views on suspension and as they tune and set up mega power cars ill go with what they say lol, but once thats done wheels it will be i think

Great read and great mods - look forward to seeing more buddy

Nice one Pal. Paving the way for me........:racer:

What new zorst sytem u gonna go for in 6/7 months then man?

haha yep! imran asked when you were coming in for your stage 2 :p

gonna ditch this for a supersprint system, like for like its about 50-60% more expensive, so it isnt cheap, but the quality is amazing! was looking at some E39 M5 systems they had there and just on another level!

Haha keeping on top of things good! Hey rolling road at both at some stage would be cool to see the difference! Wonder what dyno lottery it give you
Aw thats fair enough, you did say after your little play on that private road that you werent too impressed with the suspension when at high speeds. Yeah dont blame you they know what they are talking about and have the knowledge. New wheels on this and it will look lovely plus you will feel the difference in weight aswell.

yea was a really interesting chat, he said if i wanted to do it properly, then id be looking at a min £2.5k worth of coilovers and then prob a good £500 worth of setting up to get a well set up car for fast road use... needless to say i wont be spending that much, but think i may be going down a slightly different route to what i originally planned but we will see

yea need something new, am starting to stray away from the idea of the OZ's at £1.2k just for the metal is a lot, so may go down the route of TD 1.2's as they are only a tiny bit heavier then the OZ's but less then half the price

Fantastic write up, there, Paolo! Lots of very well thought out mods and bucketloads of style, lol. You're one of the most helpful and informative guys on here dude and your car's a credit to you. Well done! :)

Paulie x

cheers Paulie!
yea its taken its time, but its starting to take shape, if only i had more spare money haha
thanks, i do my best to help as ive picked up a few bits of knowledge while ive been on here

Paolo x

finally..... :applaus:

love how your car "like mine" looks grey in most phots where its so dirty!!

didnt know you wrapped your intake in the gold sweet wrapper.. did it make a difference? i want to do this but am also scared about pulling off the Intake pipe from where the Turbo is as i saw how much of a ***** it was to install...

one more thing... give me your dam brakes!!!
