Hello,

I just bought a 2005 A3 8PA, and I wanted to upgrade the head unit. I have a couple of questions though:

  • Are there any more morden Audi head units that I can upgrade to with minimum rewiring?
  • If not, would upgrading to an aftermarket unit affect the rear parking sensors?

I've fitted aftermarket units before and I'm aware of the rewiring required to get things working, but I just wanted to know the implications of doing so when the sensors are involved.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

You could look into the Rns-e unit , you might need to mod your car a bit but personnally i find it a good unit if correctly fitted and coded, this unit won't affect your parking sensors well it doesn't affect my rear ones . There is a post floating around about various aftermarket HU's which might interest you

Thanks, is there a guide to fit that type of unit? I have a single din unit at the moment.

Single at the moment.

Without doing a double DIN conversion (see https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec151.shtml) you won’t be able to fit the double DIN aftermarket units or RNS-E.

You could stick to single DIN head units or even something that gives you best of both worlds (see https://www.pioneer-car.eu/eur/products/avh-z7000dab)

All depends on what you want. I have a 2005 A3 with single DIN too and recently picked up a double DIN cage and buttons for a conversation. The aftermarket single DIN units while great doesn’t blend in too well as they tend to be too glossy!

Thanks, that's really useful! If I went for that single DIN unit, would that affect the parking sensors?
