Part numbers

Boring one really but can anyone tell me if when buying patent parts looking at the OEM part number does it really matter about the last character? For example ive got 8K0.949.101 C but where ever I look online list the parts will fit if its 8K0.949.101 or with A at the end. So they dont want to supply it incase it doesn't work.

Yes it does matter, it can either be a straight-up supercession of the previous part or a completely different revision of a part. What is it you're looking for?
