passenger door handle not opening the door

Last night the handle failed on the passenger door. The inside handle works fine and the door locks ok its just the outer door handle that wont open the door.

A6 2012 c7 avant .

Think its the cable that has come off the handle, read that you can undo a torx bolt to release the cap next to the main handle but if you go too far something drops inside the door that is not good.

Anyone done this or have any info please ???

well took out a black grommet to try and release the small part of the handle and bottled it on how far to undo it, scared of dropping part of it inside the door. Fastened it back up and strangely its working again. See how long its lasts.
