Passenger window found down !!

Hello all, can anyone help solve this mystery ?
I recently got back from a 2 week holiday, only to find that the passenger front window (1998 A4 TDi) was wound all the way down ! I am sure when I parked the car that I walked around the car and checked all the doors were secure etc before leaving it in a hotel, underground carpark. I can find nothing missing or damaged in the car. It is just a mystery. Has anyone experienced anything similar ? Is there a known security risk ? The hotel is going to look at the security family to see what happened, just looking for ideas. TIA

I had a BMW once which did this when the battery ran down to a certain level. After a bit of investigating from my garage they replaced the alarm and it hasnt happend again! The BMW shut all the windows when you arm the alarm, if the A4 does this also maybe this is your problem.

OR, I have an A3 which when you hold down the unlock button on the key drops the windows, the car will lock itself again if a door isnt openend within 30 about seconds, so leaving your car locked with open windows. Although it does both windows not just the one like yours. Is your drivers window working OK? This can happen when you put your key into your pocket and it leans against something else.

DMitch is right.

I have had several occasions where the doors have unlocked, both front windows wound down and then the doors lock again. The trouble with this feature of the VAG keyfob/Audi is the fob buttons (particularily the open door button!) can be pressed down when in your pockets, without you realising.

So much so i would like to get the window bit deactivated if this can be done. Anyone with a VAGCOM done this?

I only have the old fashioned "key" to unlock the car, and so can rule out the inadvertent operation of a key fob button. But also, holding the key towards "open" will force BOTH windows down, as will holding the key in the "close" position shut both windows. In my case, only one was down ! There is no automatic "lock" if left unlocked either.

The lecky windows have a sensor for any obstruction when they are closing. What can happen is the mechanism can get a bit "out of whack" (technical term), and while the window is closing it struggles, thinks it has got a baby's head stuck in it so winds all the way down again.
This happened to wifeys A3 1.8TS, to the point that it wouldn't get anywhere near closed before retreating back down again. I spent best part of a day "fiddling" (technical term) with the mechanism, but there is no adjustment on it. Took it to my Audi specialist (not Audi dealer) and they had to replace the frame/runners. Basically the window was getting skewed as it rose and then jamming. Does your passenger window close ok? Is there any fore/aft movement if you wiggle it?

I don't believe the window sensed a "jam" situation as the window was closed when I left the car.
My windows have always worked faultlessly (until now) !
I have minitored its operation over the last two days and can find no faults.... I am mystified, and await a report from the hotels CCTV system for further clues.

from time to time i catch myself putting my elbow on the rear window button and wind up rolling it down, usually wont notice unless i am going fast or its cold.

aaaah the luxury of having rear lecky windows. Can't believe Audi put manual rear windows in my 2.8Q.

I've come back to an unlocked car, im sure its when a button is pressed on the fob while the key is in my pocket, just as Spence said.
I suppose it would have been a good idea to have an audible sound whenever the alarm is armed/disarmed like a lot of other cars.

PS i know this sounds silly but may be you just left a window down, sometimes its hard to tell if the windows up or down when you have a very clean window. You cant tell by simply looking sometimes

The remote locking should rearm itself after a minute or 2, if you've locked the car then inadvertently unlocked it then not opened any doors.

You can enable the alarm 'bleep' on arm/disarm if you want. VAG-COM can do it, or alternatively you can take it to your friendly dealer and ask them to do it
