And I love it!

OK, so she has issues (some of which I knew about when I agreed the purchase) but some new ones have become evident today.....

1) I can't remove the battery (its knackered)! I know this one has been done to death all over the web, but try as I might, I couldn't get an Allen Key into the bolt head to release it from the clamp. Primarily due to not having a narrow enough socket and extension bar! So, as its going in for a service and CamBelt on friday, I'm going to get it done there instead.

2) The Radio (Symphony 2) won't power up - it lights up when the headlights are turned on, but won't switch on in its own right - the power button (assuming thats the left one as you look at it) hasn't got any play in it - it doesn't move when you press it, so I'm assuming its jiffed..... Not a problem, as I'll be swapping it out for an RNS-E when it arrives (although a working Symphony 2 would be worth having to put back in if needed at a later date)....

3) The Cup Holder and Storage Tray above the radio are both knackered - not important in the whole scheme of things, but I like things to work! Neither of them pop out when pressed - the front of the storage tray actually fell off on the M25 (start of things to come??) and it looks like the hole behind is actually empty - I'm assuming this CupHolder is the same.... Anyone got spares knocking about that I can buy?

4) The Ashtray won't open.... I don't smoke, but as above, I like the little things to work!!

Welcome to the club.
what toys has it got or is it bog standard?
Got any plans for it?

welcome.

You'll love the car. lovely cars, and the S Line variants are brilliant. they are specced well to start with.

Make sure all 4 tyres are the same size before you do much else! something a lot of people with permanant Quattro overlook.

Also get some pics up!!!

X 2 Plus well done and welcome to the Club.

Thanks for the welcome!

Its pretty much standard at the moment (as far as I can tell) with the exception of what looks like B7 Aero Wipers and Arms. I've got my RNS-E here, ready to go in - if the Wife ever lets me near the car long enough to do anything to it....... Next mods will probably be HIDs (these headlights really are pony!) and probably an XCarlink Iphone connector with Bluetooth - unless I can find a suitably cheap OEM Bluetooth module.

Had it serviced and checked over by an independant VAG Specialist yesterday, seems to be a good car so far - still a few little jobs to do, but nothing major currently (although the oil pressure alarm popped up a couple of times when I collected it, but not since - I know it could be an indicator of Black Sludge, but I'll keep an eye on it and to be fair, I got it very cheap, so I'm 'reasonably' happy to spend some out on it sorting it). Managed to get the Symphony 2 working for the moment - it'll do until I can get the RNS-E installed - although no one local with VCDS seems to want to reply to my PMs asking for coding help LOL! Haven't got anywhere warm to work though and I'm getting to old to pull cars apart outside in this kind of weather!

A couple of images to keep you going!

And yes, I know its badged as an S4 - it was like that when I got it... It may stay badged as such - even though the S4 owning Posse may be out to string me up for committing blasphemy - partly because the Wife likes calling it an S4 and partly because "A4, 1.8T 190 S-Line Quattro" is a hell of a mouthful!

I would get that sludge thing done before everything else or the engine will be toast.

Nice car, I like it

The Aero wipers are factory fit, Standard item from 2004>

Re the Sludge thing - I'm all over it! Keeping a very close eye on it and will get it back to a garage if the alarm comes up again. Touch wood, it hasn't as yet, but due to the snow, I've only done about 20 miles since I got it back.

Thanks for the info re the Aero Wipers - makes sense!

@AU01 A4 - not ignoring it, its just not reporting a fault at the moment - thoughts are that the flush may have helped, but its being closely monitored.

I knew about the oil sludging problem when I took the car on (and I posted on the thread you linked to LOL) - we'll see what happens...

just dont want you the have to fork out for a new engine, change the oil regular,
it happend to me on M25 (may bank holiday weekend), and had to get recovered, was not happy wasted a day and cost £450 to get me and the car home

To explain a little about the oil pressure alarm:

The pressure switch in the engine is rated at 1 bar. When the pressure drops below 1 bar this switch turns on. The dash however only reports the switch being on, if the engine is above 2000rpm (iirc, might be 2500).

What that means is your car could be running way low on pressure, but so long as it scrapes 1 bar by 2k the light will stay off. To give you an idea, the engine should be producing >1bar at idle and at 2500rpm you should be seeing 3 or 4 bar.

You can view the status of the switch with vagcom however, so you can see if its turning on when the cars idling. If it IS then it needs sorted immediately.

The S4 badges are wrong, because its not an S4. Its just as chavvy as sticking an M3 badge on a 318i, or an RS badge on a 1.1 fiesta.

@aragorn - thanks for the info re the Oil Pressure Switch - most informative! You say that the status of the switch can be monitored with VAGCom - is this possible with the Shareware/Registered version of the software, or only with a full version, and how do I do it??

And as for the comments re the Chavviness of the S4 badges being fitted to a car that blatantly isn't an S4 - it wasn't me that fitted them as I said before, the car came with them! I was joking re the whole "leaving them on as its easier than saying S-Line 190 Quattro etc" - But I'll consider myself firmly put in my place for having the audacity to purchase a car that someone else had delusions of grandeur over! LOL
