If anyone ever wonders(well maybe not, I sure didnt wonder before this happening) what would happen, if you crash your A3 front cornerwise.
May 2016 3 days after birthday I was at night going for Mcdonalds to get a snack (or that is what I think I remember I was going to do) and hitting overpass right turning ramp with 70km/h(nominal speed for that turn or well its suggested max speed and I have done it thousands of times before), when a bolt(which seemed like a vag group bolt with sharp cone end, most likely from engine/gearbox bolts) went throught my tire and wheel.
As you see, the notch low of wheel is where it went throught.
I kinda remember going into ramp and next thing is that know, car has stopped middle of road and I realised something is wrong and put on hazard lights. Got up and looked that my car is totalled and it had crashed to left side of ramp to security steel(still thanking for its invertor its strong, there would have been 10-15metre drop without it) and slide beside it till car had stopped.
I myself hit head on side window and B-bar on chassis, all my muscles were torn and ripped mostly from left side of body and some on right. Head was bleeding etc. still few years to go that my muscles heal near perfect. oh and I would be so goddamn happy if i had side airbags! Would have saved lot of pain. Good thing is too that I always wear seatbelt!
Anyways this TLDR material soon so gonna shorten it
Car itsef took biggest blow to corner as you can see. The chassis bar on left side was pushed back towards inside of car and it lifted door out of its place and door bent outwards from me hitting it full force.
here you can see how chassis has twisted and broken apart bit.
Doesnt seem so bad at pictures but car also had severe damage to suspension parts, steering parts, drive shaft and chassis.
Overally car took the hit pretty good and it has been repaired for driving condition, even chassis is twisted and steering rack has 5-10mm clap on middle but you cannot really notice that unless you specially try to look for it.
Its my daily driver until I get the S3 up and running, then Im going to take out the AGU engine of it and possibly build a stroker from it.
So yeah even for 1998 car, it saved my life and now I respect side airbags even more.
Im not really scared to drive cars at all since all the was a one in million chance of happening. The bolt being on road, being on right angle between ramps etc.
Here it is, ugly as usual but works and its quite nice to drive with approx 190hp. you can see on driver side that things are not quite on its place but well, I bought it as crashed car with left door and rear part of car dented towards in and knew its not pretty but price was right. Its my ugly lil' beast
