Hi all,

Been reading about retrofitting power fold mirrors. Seen a few threads on here and also researched on line. Have seen some components and full kits knocking around.

Anyone have a firm answer on what's required or a good quality garage/fitter for them?

Got my 8V arriving soon (14 plate) and it's the only thing missing I really wanted. May not be worth it but any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I have a pair of folding mirror bodies which I bought from Audi, in their original boxes, had them fitted to my S3 for 18 months. I've also got the mirror switch, optics and door plastic molding to fit. Interested?

You need to replace the standard mirrors with electric power folding mirrors, new module control unit switch which sits in the door and door insert to house the new switch. You also need VCDS to code the new mirrors to the car. You then need a little bit of patience and basic tools and thats about it. You reuse the current glass and outer mirror caps. Takes a novice about 1 - 2 hours per side to strip door, remove old mirror and replace. Experts do it in a quarter of the time. First side will be slower than the second for obvious reasons. I reckon I could strip one down now and replace again in a 1/3 of the time it took me to do mine!. Have a good read up on the various threads then make your mind up if you are up to the job. When pulling your car apart its not something to take lightly. It was however one of the first things I did and it still puts a smile on my face.

As NHN has pointed out there are also plenty of expert retrofitters who can do this for you as well. Sometimes the additional cost is not that much more especially if you need access to VCDS or need to purchase trim removal tools etc. Depends how much you also value your own time!

Depending where you live, Alex from VagCar coding @DJAlix is another who can supply / retofit this easily for you as well for example.

This is a good thread to read.

I want this on my car, I'd be interested in hearing how much to do it

For parts alone, this cost me just under £400 as it requires new side mirrors (minus mirror) the door handle new trim and the optics. This is with the discount Mike provided. If you need any more help @robps3 we can start another conversation.

Do you have the part codes and where did you buy from?

I would check with the Audi parts guy to see if the number or parts has changed. Tell them your REG and hopefully they can work it out.

Completed this retrofit today. Great help and advice on here!

Does anyone have the coding to set the mirrors to fold on a long press of the lock button rather than every press of the lock button?

With some help from @DJAlix, I have set the mirrors to fold on long press of the lock key.

Change the option for the following adaptation channel:

09 > Adaptation > Access control 2-Funk Spiegelanklappung Modus

I have changed from "by look command via remote control key" to "by convenience operation via remote control key".

Means I can make sure I don't leave them folded in winter when the ice and frost comes!

Is this the same for the facelift s3? Do you just need the mirrors and switch panel with switch?

So having just asked in the parts request section to be told Audi don’t retrofit these...

Did I make the mistake of not requesting replacements for the model (any A/S3 with them currently spec’d) rather than my car?

Cheers

They will supply the parts but they won't do the work to retrofit them. Why did you think they offer this tailored service ?

Either attempt it yourself or find a specialist garage who can take on the work.

Sorry it is likely my poor phrasing of the question then. I didn’t want them to do the work, just supply the parts - i.e door piece, mirror bodies, no glass or mirror backs.
Maybe I need to phrase it a little better.

8v0959565n switch
8v4959522b 6ps bezel(door panel)
thats for sport back and black. Not sure if it’s the same for other models.

they were fine with my door modules 2018 s3. I have the black edition with tech pack
I know some cars need new modules but not sure which ones.

Hi All,

Sorry for the thread resurrection! However, I'm planning to tackle this retrofit. I have order the two mirrors, switch, optic and grab handle, which seems to be all that I need. My car is a 2019 S3, and a scan with VCDS indicates that I have the correct modules.

I know that I am likely to be over simplifying this, but the steps seem to be:
1) Remove door card (any good guides?)
2) Remove mirror glass and cover being careful not to break
3) Unclip cable and remove mirror assy (is the routing straight forward?)
4) Swap over grab handle (after fitting optic and switch). I read that that at least one of the fixings is heat moulded - how is this best tackled when removing and refitting?
5) Code as detailed on this thread

Any tip and thoughts on the above would be very much appreciated!

Cheers!

Just look through the 'similar threads' listed below, it takes some getting out but it's all in there, I have just done mine following all the threads. The advice is right go to Crew Audi for your smaller parts, there are people asking almost twice as much than new for second hand rubbish on e*** which is usually damaged on removal.

I bought this for removing the mirror after reading horror stories about breaking them at £40 ea

£40 for normal glass, £3-400 for dimming glass.
I did mine without the tool and used long trim removal tools. Just make sure pressure isn’t on the edge of the glass and more in the centre where the clips are.

Hi All, I’m in the middle of retrofit, and slightly confused be the cable dangling in the photo of the new mirror. Is this needed? Many thanks.

They look like the lane assistance wires (the LEDs that turn on/off in your mirrors if cars are approaching you from the sides). If your car does not have those features then it does not connect to anything.

Hi @NHN are you still on here... Requiring help with coding in retrofit power folding mirrors on my Audi A3 8v 2015 model... ??
And help with coding for other retrofits I've done. I have a genuine Ross tech vcds cable but I have no idea what I'm doing after I plugged the cable in and registered it and downloaded the software.. I'm really stuck . Any help would be appreciated.. or if anyone can help who comes across this and reads it
Kind regards
Chell
