DARTFORD: Speed cameras to be installed at crossing
11:48am Tuesday 24th March 2009
MOTORISTS face overnight closures at
Dartford Crossing while speed cameras are installed.
The work started yesterday (March 23) and will last for two months.
During this time there will be intermittent overnight lane closures on the QEII Bridge (A282 Southbound) as well as full road closures between tonight (March 24) and March 30.
When the bridge is closed traffic will be diverted through the tunnels.
The work is being carried out to improve road safety and smooth traffic flows on the crossing.
It comes as the Highways Agency and the police take steps to improve road safety and smooth traffic flows by ensuring compliance with the 50mph speed limit through the introduction of cameras.
Graham Threader from the Highways Agency, said: "This work is absolutely necessary to improve road safety and traffic flows.
“We are determined to reduce the number of collisions and make drivers journeys safer and more reliable.
"All work will be carried out overnight and where full closures are necessary traffic from both directions will use the tunnels."
