Quick question: headlight retrofit facelifts

Just wanted to check that one piece facelift headlights from an A3 8L 1.6 (2000) will fit a pre-facelift 1.8. Thanks.

People say you have to cut a part of the wing on the inside but I've fitted facelift headlights to mine without having to modify anything.
