Albeit an A3 owner for over 5 years now I have never changed the Brake fluid in that time , could I therefore as a totally new member seek the advice of the " old hands " of audi-sport for some guidance . Audi seem to recommended " Dot 4 " and I merely wished to ask if this is the general consensus of the members . Gordon Morison , Kirkintilloch , East Dunbartonshire , Scotland .

Dot 4 is perfect. Only difference between the "dots" are boiling points with 5.1 being higher. Also I think 5.1 is different type of liquid.
Dot 4 is fine, If you want a product with better performance and slightly more cost the Lockheed ultra 5.1 is pretty good. It's what I use in my car.

Short answer: use DOT4 unless you are always tracking your car, then use DOT5.1
