Remap advice please

Hi all.

I’m after some advice regarding remaps.

firstly I gave a 2ltr tfsi A4 dynamic on an 11 plate. It’s done 101k

it’s had the Audi engine rebuild due to oil consumption issues and also had new oil pump and full chain kit done.

by comparison to my old barge, 440bhp vxr8 it feels slow.

I’ve had cars that have been mapped before, all by previous owners and they have always been none turbo cars.

what I want to know is how advisable is a remap given the milage and the work that’s been done to the engine?

I hear Revo maps seem to be favoured?? Is this because they are safe and reliable? If just best suited to Audi?

I do find that powerwise I need to be at 3k before boost comes in. Would a map alter when boost comes in? Ie sooner?

the car is totally standard so what sort of benefits wood I get? As I don’t want to modify other than map.

how much extra stress would a map place on the clutch, turbo etc

I just want a bit more poke, but don’t want it to lead to problems

2.0 tfsi remaps... you should be able to squeeze another 50-70hp in stock form.

You could go for an economy map +25% power.

50/50 map, 50% increase.

Power map, tuned to the max!

Plenty of mobile tuners around these days that will come out to you and have it done within the hour.

I personally would avoid the majority of 'mobile' tuners, unless they have a long history. Some of the Facebook tuner maps I have seen are engine busting. Someone like Duncan of Race Dynamix, who is generally mobile would be a good call.

With the bigger brands like REVO, APR etc, they have put a fair enough of RD into their maps, and generally only map to within certain limits. They also have a 'physical' presence if something was to go wrong. They work through a network of approved dealers, most of which are specialists in their own right, so you have multiple points of contact, and if you use someone like Awesome GTI they will give you rolling road print outs before and after, so you can see exactly whats happened.

The bigger names won't give you the most 'bhp' for your pound, but theres obviously reasons for that. What you get, will be safe on a day to day basis. Most mappers webpages give you an approximation of what you will achieve for your vehicle/engine.

Bare in mind, not everyone likes a remapped car, or indeed they may not like a particular map, all have different ways of mapping, so look for one who offers a money back guarantee if you don't like it.

Thanks for your reply. Yes I’ve heard horror stories of engines going bang with bad maps.

I was more curious from the point of view relating to a cars mileage, mines just done 101k, but has undergone the Audi engine repair for oil consumption and had the chains done

If your so worried about your engine then forget about remapping your car because your making a mountian out of a molehill, I have remapped cars with alot higher mileage than yours with no issues what so ever, it really isn't a big deal.

Yes remaps always improve when boost comes in , it will come in earlier and stronger .

Just make sure you go with a firm who has proper Public Liability insurance or similar, incase something goes wrong .
