Hi guys,

I have a 2020 A6 Allroad 50 Tdi with HD Matrix Lights.. last night on my way home I hit a deer and the light lens is now cracked and bits missing (i have covered it to not let any water in). Does anyone have any insight on whether it is possible to change just the lens cover.. or have any experience doing so?

Look forward to hearing back.

Cheers.

Ouch! Sorry to hear about that bad luck there.

You might be best contacting your dealer about this, I suspect you have to replace the entire headlight unit though if I remember correctly these are built without interchangeable parts but I could be wrong - if so you are looking somewhere in the region of 1800 quid for the unit alone unfortunately.

Tbh insurance claim as they're super expensive & depending on how badly damaged, may not be just a lense.

This parts diagram would suggest that the lens cover is not available on its own. Maybe you can find/buy just the basic unit and hten transfer all of the internals

Ive seen a few recently start to trickle onto flee bay, so may be worth keeping an eye out on there.

These units cost ££££

Quick thread hijack..... Is that 7Zap extract an update to the online catalogue?
I can only see up until 2016 for most models, on the online version I access.

Found it :thumbs up:

Thanks guys. I have found a lens cover on eBay for £180(ish) and I am wondering whether its worth trying to fix it myself and if it goes wrong then I will still be in the same situation IE having to get a whole new unit!

I have covered it in PPF type vinyl for now to stop any moisture getting in - The matrix LEDS all still work just fine hence why I am keen to fix just the lens.

Cheers.

The other option is - I have found a used one on eBay for £550 but I am wondering whether it will need to be recoded to the car etc or whether it will work just plug and play..? I have doubts that it'll be that simple.

Be careful on which one you pick on ebay there are different version and MY years

Cost of a new light is £2148.00

From what I understand the light would need to be coded, lights may even have CP but not 100% sure on that one.

It will be tricky as they are glued on. I've read a lot of threads about putting the unit oven to soften the glue! Either way good luck with the repair. There is also a guy on the forum that specialises in LED's think it the user is t8ups. Send him a message and see if he can help.

Thanks for that! I'll send him a message - i'm not expecting it to be straightforward but can't help thinking it is doable here is a pic of the light at the moment..

Yikes! Quite a crack there. I assume that is the only damage caused by the impact? If so, quite low damage considering the circumstances but with potential for a hefty price tag.

I have to ask, how is the deer?

The only impact point was the headlight so like you say, low damage but high cost - considering if the deer was 2ft further into the road i'd imagine a whole lot more damage and potentially even undrivable.. Re the deer, all I know is it did get away! Can imagine he had quite a headache though..

Can’t imagine it to be worse than my last hangover if it ran away.
