Hi, I'm new to the forum aswell as to Audi ownership - I've got an A3 2012 Sportback Quattro S Line Black Edition 170 so is reasonably well equipped but I had always set out to get a car with the sat nav installed. This car came up and ticked virtually all the boxes apart from sat nav. No doubt this question has been asked no end before but I've had a look and can't find the answer - basically I've bought a RNSE with the black trim surround and a 2012 manufacturing date but have had conflicting advice as to how much of a straight swap it is for the standard Concert unit - do I need adaptor leads or specialist coding?

The car has Bluetooth as standard and although it should have an aux socket aswell I can't find it but there is a small round hole in the rear rh of the glovebox. I've got the code card and also the latest maps dvd with the sat nav.

Apologies for the long winded post and thanks in advance.

I guess the only way you'll know for sure is if you pull your current unit out and look at which type of connector it has, obviously if it's a quadlock (which I believe the RNS-e will have) then it should be a fairly straight forward swap you'll obviously just need to fit a GPS aerial.
Clearly if your Concert unit has ISO connectors rather than a quadlock you'll need an adapter from someone like Kufatec or Connects2. :thumbs up:

If your radio is about the same size as mine was I did the same retrofit.

It will require a bit of coding and you will need to purchase another aux kit for RNS-E if you like to keep the option.

I didn’t use it at all, I just moved all my music to an SD card.
Thank for replies, not sure I understand the coding bit though - is it done on the sat nav display or does a code reader/laptop need plugging in?

Not too bothered about the aux in really, hopefully with the sat nav being a 2012 unit I can use the larger SD cards

Firstly remove concert see if there is a quad lock if there is, plug it into the back off your rnse , push it back in then switch it on ( no need to put key ignition ) .Rnse will ask for code so car will recognise it put that in then that should be you ready to go .
If needing to sort Aux out you can search on here and you will find heaps about this maybe in Sat nav section

That sounds like a good description of plug and play which would be good - I've got to buy a set of removal keys first though so probably be the weekend before I get it done

I know that the symphony 11 is just plug n play but not sure about the concert ( thinking you will need iso adaptor , pickup from halfords ) then after that it should just be plug n play . You can easily pick up a gps from ebay and if you buy the Aux ready made up wire loom you just plug that in drop it down the back and pull it under the climate control and if you have ashtray delete you just put it in the pocket . Let me know how you get on later

I've got the GPS aerial with a magnetic fixing so that's sorted. Do you mean then that if there is a factory fitted aux socket already there it has a separate cable that plugs in at the back of the unit on its own? Otherwise where could I get the ready made up kit from?

Cables wise it will be just plug and play other than needing to put a gps antenna somewhere. but because you don’t already have an rnse I’m pretty sure you’ll need someone with vcds to code it to the car for you.
Your car will have a quadlock connector and so will the rnse.

I believe VCDS coding using a laptop, cable and software is required to make sure the car is coded correctly with the RNS-E. I had to code mine and have helped lots of people with this after the retrofit.

I found it 10 times easier to just buy the Aux kit made up as i was taking my center consoul out and i just run the cable from back off rnse down under consoul and into the jack plug in consoul. I did this as when consoul was out i changed the cig lighter for the flap one put a new ashtray delete in changed the trim round gaitor and put an Q3 Climate Control in so it is really up to yourself if you go for ready made Aux or move some wires into the 32bit connector and plug into the Aux part in the bk off rnse . Use pin code for rnse ( 4digit if i mind ) then code with vcds . .

There's been a development - I'm going to have parking sensors fitted (for the wife) so the company doing it will sort the sat nav at the same time but it's nice to know there's so much help and information available on here, just like being back on the XROC forum

Excellent mate glad to hesr it

The parking sensors and sat nav is now fitted and all works great but I have a question which has no doubt been asked no end but just need to confirm which SD cards to buy - my rnse is a later mk1 version with the cd/tv button but chrome knobs and a black bezel so I think the cards need to be 4gb each maximum but can anyone provide a link to a suitable one?
Thanks

As far as i can make out from others these 4GB cards are a bit hard to find well the working ones are. Ebay ( 272427180558 ) ( 352319184012 ) now i cant say they will be any good to you .

I've had a look at the first one but I've an idea the the HC cards aren't compatible

It looks like these are the ones to have and reasonable value too - there are quite a few of the reviews from Audi owners so I`ve ordered a couple, they`re only 2GB each but should still store 500 tracks

The Amazon link doesn`t want to work for some reason but if you do a search for Transcend 2GB SD Secure Digital Card, it`ll come up
