Hi there - hopefully someone will find this useful....
This was my experience, all disclaimers apply!
I have a RHD 2016 4 door Sportback automatic.
OK I wanted something rather than carpet to rest my left foot on.
If you look and feel just above where a left foot rest would be there is a small hole and the end of 2 bolts.
The footrest uses the black one on the right.
I bought this footrest 6Q2864777, which is made for various VAG cars, second-hand for around £8.
It comes built with a plastic hook/bracket on the back which must fit through a slot in the carpet and a notch in the bodywork. That may be there on the A1 but I didn't fancy pulling trim, so I cut it off smooth with a Stanley knife.
It also has a hole for the bolt to fit through.
I used 2 x 20mm wide strips of stick-on velcro (scratchy side) under the footrest on the 2 sides where it touches the carpet. In hindsite I would recommend using more but it's actually completely stable.
I also purchased - at a scandalous price from Audi - the required special nut N90482701 (around £1.60 - probably cheaper from Seat!
The nut screws on with a 10mm socket.
I'd give it 9/10 for fit but it's so much better than not having one. Enjoy
