RNS E - differences

Hi Newbie here


Can anyone explain the differences between RNS E models & features etc?
I want to retrofit to my 2009 A3 with BOSE.


From what I have managed to find out searching the forum is the are 2 versions:


A3 - pre 2011 (non LED screen and 1xSD slot)
A3 - post 2011 (LED screen, 2xSD slot & fast CPU)


What are the model numbers I should be looking at for the 2012 model?


I will want to hook up a MMI/iPod & Bluetooth interface at a later stage.


Any advice appreciated

MK1 Units can only take 2x 8GB cards, Mk2 can take 2x 32GB. Also the MK2 has a faster processor.

Mk2 has far superior screen resolution, added benefit of AMI integration etc, where you based? I can offer you full install of the components

You want a 8P0 035 193 C or H ideally for the SDS but you'll find 193 G models will be easier to get. If your car is a 2009 then ignore the Mk1 units (ending in 192) as from the factory your car would of have a 193 unit.

The way to tell the later unit is they have chrome knobs and the LED screen. They also have "Media" on the second button in from the left. Don't take this as concrete though as the knobs can be changed and the my unit has "Media" and not "CD/TV" on the said button and mine is a 192 Q unit.

Always check the part number on the unit.

Thanks for the info I will source an SDS 193 unit from eBay, how much should I be looking to pay for a second hand unit?

Do i need a specific bluetooth module? i can see that there is a newer 2011/2012 version, should I go for that one?

Both old and new versions had two SD card slots, just the new one supports SDHC whereas the original one didn't.

As mentioned above, the new version also supports things like the AMI system (well worth it as far better than SD cards) but the screen alone is worth getting a newer model - the old screen looks horrid by comparison.

Im looking for one of these, picked up a 12 plate Black Edition today......

I notice a lot of RNS-E's on Ebay come from Europe.....Im assuming its ok to install a European model in a UK car and just set the language to UK??

My car has Voice control, so I assume Im looking for 8P0 035 193 H or 8P0 035 193 C?

Yep as above, I think its a unit that supports integration with the microphone/speech recognition

I can find loads of G versions but no H ones, im a little confused though as to whether it makes a difference because an ebay listing states SDS High(?) support for the G version unit they are selling...

but based on the post earlier stating all the version numbers it has to be an H version if I want voice control surely? (im also worried that re-coding might wipe out some of the voice recognition stuff I already have??)

Any with last 3 digits 193.
Letter depends on region, sds integration and minor differences.
