RS3 8Y General Discussion Thread.

Well I've owned two 8Y A3's as you might see from my signature, fourth year of ownership now. The first one was a PITA, guess the same scheisse you had with your RS3. The one I currently have is light years better, though it's having some rattles and clicks that speak of uneven manufacturing quality I guess, since the first one didn't have those. I test drove the 8V back then and quite didn't get the hype around it. The drivetrain and especially suspension got much more sophisticated by 8Y.

Agree with you that they are heading wrong with their newest interior and pricing realizations. Not what I was hoping when they kept the physical HVAC buttons and integrated screen when the others went all screens and tacked-on tablets.

Clacking brake pedal Audi say is normal was embarrassing especially when you have anyone in the car asking "what the heck was that noise" :whistle2:

Passenger side vent always creaking no matter what you did with it, Audi weren't interested

Steering Rack lock to lock clicking sounds that was replaced under warranty, however it then came back with steering wheel off centre, so 3 more visits and no joy with getting it straight ahead, in the end i went to a specialist alignment place who sorted it.

MMI software / App that was terrible

Gloss black flaking off the exhaust tips on the inside.

Dealer that got brake fluid on the calipers because of poor housekeeping after a fluid change

Dealer that didn't reset oil filter drain nipple after a service, so oil leaked out of it.....plus a pollen filter that was never changed, thought i wouldn't check more like it.

Dealer just in general a complete waste of space, puts you right off Audi.

Software that every time i scanned it with VCDS was littered with error messages, (8V RS3 never had this) yet the 8Y is plagued by poor software / Errors.

Interior of a S-Line A3, you could be sat in either and not really know which was which lol......

Yeah that's bad. One thing that sticks out is that lots of people tell those horror stories about the UK dealers, that's weird. In here I have mostly nothing but good to tell about the dealer. If it was like your case with my first 8Y I'd had no choice but take a hit of the instant depreciation and get rid of the car, and never would I buy a new one from them. Instead they did everything they could to fix that then-unfinished product and finally offered me quite a fair deal of the new one.

Sadly that's how UK dealers are I'm afraid, happy to take yer money but anything else is like bad dentistry, painful.........

Glad to be out of it now, less worrying if it'll be damaged at the dealers, or pinched when out and about in it, the UK car theft stats are shocking and the Police are a joke.

I’ve had my RS3 for just over a year now. I’ve had the oil changed at 3000 miles and on a reasonable run on A and B roads managed 36.5 mpg over 77 miles which I think isn’t too bad. My Golf R would get up towards 38 mpg over similar roads. How’s everyone else’s doing and does it get better with more miles?

Compared to my Golf R (7.5) my RS3 averages slightly less on shorter knocking about/shopping runs, 26 v 28mpg, but on longer runs that we have done in both cars the RS3 will show a shade over 40mpg (maybe 42) whereas the Golf would be in the 38/39 mpg area :)

When there was a 50mph Speedlimit on the M4 roadworks to Reading, was averaging well above 40+. Now with 20mph around here, dropping 1mpg/1minute. just daft.
