Hi all, just joined, been reading this thread with interest, managed to get my local dealer to price match a local independent specialist, £185inc vat for a long life oil change. My vehicles 12 months old on the 3rd March so decided to drop the oil, only covered 6k though.

Opening the boot when I got home, they’ve also put an unopened bottle of Audi screen wash concentrate in there for me to have!

Hi all, general service question. My oil change light has popped up at about 17.5K (after about 18months of ownership) I had my oil changed by an local ex-audi tech at 10K. But would like to book into a dealer for this first proper service.

First question, apart from the oil, should anything else be done? E.g. brake fluid etc

Second question, thoughts on using an Audi approved VW dealer for the service? Wasn't that impressed with the previous Audi dealer I used in Essex, and their courtesy car availability is terrible.

I did have a read to be fair. Only other mention I could see at ~20K was spark plugs. Hence my question about anything else.

I tbink the consenus on here is to go dealer FASH whilst in the PCP / warranty period of your car, and try to get a price match as Audi dealers are obliged to offer this.
Then when out of warranty go with a decent local independent for servicing.

As for anything else to be changed in first service or any service for that fact, I'm going to simply go with the manufacturers servicing advice on parts to be replaced.

On a side note, i dont intend to keep this vehicle after the 4yr PCP deal, if i were looking to keep it for the long term i.e 10yrs I would probably get all servicing etc done by a very decent local independent and ensure all parts used are OEM for warranty sake.

Being that I'm going to hand this back I'm going with the long life service schedule by a main dealer.

S Tronic oil at 38k
Haldex Oil at 3 years old.
Spark plugs and air filter at 40k with another inspection service.

I’m halving all intervals, mine has an independent oil change every 5k, then the set Audi service. S Tronic being done at 16,500, Haldex being done in May at 18 months as I’ve heard that the oil comes out in a bad way and it can be enough to stop a haldex working altogether.. for £110 I’ll change it.

Spark plugs will be done at 20k, also enquiring about a fuel filter which I read about online which Audi say isn’t a servicable item... I’ll look to change this at 20k also.

Mine is on 15k now, next 5000 miles is going to be expensive.

Fronts discs and pads? Audi discs are £580 with discount, £360 for pads. Revo Alcon discs are £900, £370 for Ferrodo pads.... not good. At 15k I had an amber status on my brakes, 6mm left on the pads and discs have a slight lipping but “nothing to worry about”, I’ll be trying to get another set of pads out of my discs for sure.

My brakes are like new at 14k miles. Their amber warning will mean you probably have another 15 miles left in them!!

The amber warning was harsh and I didn’t like the way they did it, they had a bunch of plastic measuring tools colour coded by wear and the 6mm pads were amber so they put the rest on amber too, even the rear discs which are untouched!

The pads don’t look brand new don’t get me wrong but there is still plenty of life left and a good few thousand away from any dashboard indication. I don’t see how my discs are an amber warning but in the same breath “hardly any lip, nothing to worry about”... my specialist need to work on the brake wear critierias haha.

It is strange how they changed it but I will follow advice off of those on the forum and change them at 20k. After all they will be worked hard and 40k is a long time, for the sake of minimising potential mechanical issues down the line with the well used plugs...

Had mine in to Cardiff Audi today for an oil change and early inspection, they heavily discounted the service due to some engine coolant issues I've been having and I ended up paying £270 (was £417.15) for both oil change and inspection. I also mentioned on the off-hand that the car blows through oil, so they threw in a 5L bottle free of charge (which is £50-60 alone?)

Happy with that...

I had to be recovered a couple of days before Christmas as my engine coolant had completely disappeared. This happened the day before also but luckily I was close to @AudiNutta and he thankfully offered to come out and give me a hand releasing the coolant pressure safely, where it then returned to a normal level. Unfortunately releasing the pressure slowly this time did nothing so I sat for 6 or 7 hours waiting for Audi to recover me

Despite looking at the car twice, Audi weren't able to determine where the engine coolant had disappeared to and fobbed it off as normal because "engine coolant naturally dissipates" - something I really wasn't happy with given that this isn't something that just happens overnight.

Couldn't be ***** to argue my case further and just got them to add dye in case it happens for a 3rd time.

Worrying. Can be a sign of worse things and I'm sure two guys on here had head gasket issues which were identified by coolant levels dropping.

Indeed, I did read those threads and it had me properly concerned so I brought it up to them and they told me it's highly unlikely to be the case since there's no smell of coolant or loads of smoke coming from the exhaust. They did a pressure test and also tested the oil for any coolant that may have been dumped there - both came back all clear. Both me and the chaps at Audi have no idea what happened in all honesty! I've done another ~2K miles since and it's been OK for now. Just keeping an eye on it!

Was that your 1st service ?
If so the normal cost is around £270 for oil change and inspection.
The 2nd year service which is more involved is around £420 so if that is the one you had discounted then that was a good price.

I'm on the variable servicing plan mate, this was the 1st one. It was supposed to be just an oil change since that's what was due, but I also did the inspection 4,000 miles earlier than needed.

Yep, between the engine coolant and oil issues it's concerning mate... something definitely isn't right as I've had to buy 3 bottles of the stuff now in only 14.5k miles, but Audi's response is just "keep an eye on it" so I think anything short of the engine blowing up and they don't particularly care and seem quite content to just mitigate it for now by having me fill it back up regularly...

Now they've changed the oil themselves during the service, my plan is to note my oil level and mileage every week so I can get an accurate consumption rate and then show this to them and see what they say about it.

I had the same issue on my TTS. This would do a litre of oil every 600 miles instead of the quoted 1200. Gave Audi my reg details and said that my vehicle was not effected by the oil seals that plaques the 2.0tfsi engine.
The rs3 on the other hand as not used a drop (touch wood) in all the oil changes I have done myself on the car. This mind you is the PFL iron block engine so maybe works abit differently to the new block.

Mines coming up to 4000 miles and its used just under a litre, 800ml to be exact so very similar to yours.

I sh1t you not, after talking about the above this morning about 20 minutes ago I've had to call a recovery truck to my office... incredibly loud knocking/scraping/whirling sound coming from under the car and a Start/Stop fault showing on the dash. One day after my service! Incredible...

Took the Audi assist technician out for a short drive and, annoyingly, the very loud grinding/knocking noise had disappeared. He put it down to a stone being lodged somewhere it shouldn't be.

I had two error codes for incorrect purge flow on the EGR valve (P044100) which he tested further using ODIS. The test came back OK so he just cleared that fault since I assume that's what caused the start/stop malfunction that I saw on the dash. He told me to monitor and give them a call if it happens again.

I do find it odd that an EGR valve fault wouldn't throw a check engine light and instead just cause a start/stop malfunction warning though?

There was also a fault logged (P04A100) for "Exhaust pressure control valve (B) Low" and he could not clear this one as it was static. I didn't press him to investigate this further as I have valve delete plugs in and that's probably the cause of it. Weird that it shows as a fault on ODIS, but not on any OBD applications like Carista and Car Scanner Pro?

@Phil3 Just a heads up about the above as I know you have the same valve delete plugs as me. ODIS still seems to be able to see the fault code.

Odis Callum as you know is top level Audi diagnostics software. It’s job is investigate every module and sensor in the car that generic obd tools want have the communication or power to do. Like anything I suppose it’s only as good as the technician using it mate.

So if it is consuming any, my oil changes are frequent enough for me to not notice.

I try and check mine weekly, takes a minute to pop the bonnet and check coolant and brake fluid while I’m there to.
This way you will know a little more if things look a little lower and act quicker on them.

I can get it done for £169 at at indy, but would rather have the FASH. Pretty outrageous!

Can you not try going down the “price match” route? My dealer was the same, won’t really budge on price, until I went that route
