RS4 Alloys

I bought some RS4 alloys from Ebay (genuine). The wheels came of a 2010 A6, when I tried to put the wheels on my A4 B8 sline avant they didn't fit. I had the centre hub on the wheels (which was 57mm) CNC machined to fit my A4 hub which is 66.6mm. I have them on they look great however i get a vibration on the sterring wheel after 60mph. I have had the wheels balanced twice at 2 different tyre garages but it is still there, can anyone advise what this could be? I did put a new tyre on the front off side and the near side has 3mm left. Back tyres had equally 5mm of tread, all continental contact sport 3. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers Chris

I had a vibration issue once with a BMW 5 series - started at 70mph. I had the tyres balanced a different places, all the usual suspects, and at BMW - all made no difference.
Finally after doing some research on the web, I discovered that not all balancing machines are created equal, and there was a specific machine which was considered to be exceptional.

I found this machine at:

took my car there, they balanced the wheels, and voila - all fixed.
I beleive the balancer was from one of the Hunter Roadforce series. Not only did it balance, it would recommend the best position to mount the tyre to make the wheel as round as possible, and use some kind of loading device to simulate rolling on a road.

In your case, I guess we have to assume there are no problems with the change of bore.
I wouldn't think that the tyre tread depth would cause vibration, so after you are confident about the balancing, if the vibration is still there, then you will need to look at the bore as being the cause.

Are you 100% sure the wheels are fully round???

swapped the back wheels and stuck them on the front this afternoon and seems to be better, gonna try and put some electrians tape round the hub to try and fill in any gaps. Spoke with the engineer that bored the hole and he is pretty sure he has done them to fit correctly, apparently does this for a motorsport company. God nose should have bought reps from somewhere these f**kin wheels are starting to frustrate me. What do you mean filly round ... the bore you mean yea

I mean, is there any possibility the ycould have a slight buckle in them?

i had really bad vibrations on a ford mondeo ST220 a few years back- had them balanced, re-balanced and balanced again and no-one recognised they were actually very slightly buckled!!!! One new wheel later and problems solved......

Oh right never thought of that, how do you find this out ? do you need to take all the tyres of the car and ask for them to be tested?

As advised on another forum, ask the tyre fitters to spun the wheels slowly on the balancer to check for out or round and out of true on the rim. Also look at the tyre for signs of casing failure, blebs, bumps, ripples etc.

If they are shagged there is a place in Carnwath, Ace Performance Cars, that can straighten them. Knocked one out on my old S4 which gave vibrations, especially under light braking at anything over 60mph. They fixed the wheel
