Hi,
I'm in the process of removing the driveline from my 2004 RS6 and I'm trying to work out the easiest way to disconnect the shifter cable from either the transmission or the shifter assembly.
I have the bottom plastic housing under the shifter assembly undone and the two clips on the cable removed but I am not able to slide the end off the cable off the pin. The metal side to the shifter assembly is stopping it from sliding all the way off.
There's ****** all room under the transmission tunnel to get access to the other end of the cable.
My car is RHD, I can only assume this is possibly the same for both variations.
Any suggestions? Thanks for the help.

I got it out. I managed to release the cable by putting the shifter into the "S" position. It changed the angle of the metal tab that was holding it back. Doing the reverse is going to be a nightmare.
