Hi,
So I wanted to change the chrome 4 ring badges on the front grill and rear hatch on my S1. I’ve bought the eBay ones for a previously owned A1 & A3. They were ok but as stated on this forum they are slightly smaller, but worse still, the gloss black ones fade over time and generally are poor quality. So I wanted to get Audi OEM gloss black ones. As usual the dealer said that Audi don’t make black badges for the S1. Anyway I ordered black gloss badges for a Q3. Of course the rear hatch 4 ring badge fits easily as it’s just a self adhesive and is the exact same size as the S1 chrome 4 ring badge. The Q3 gloss black 4 ring badge for the front grill is the exact same size as the S1 chrome front grill badge. The only thing that is different are the two locating pegs at the bottom of the badge. I cut these off with a small hack saw blade. These pegs do not effect how the badge is fitted. They just show you which way up the badge is fitted. The clips around the perimeter of the badge (13 of them) are the ones which actually secure the badge to the grill.
These gloss black OEM Audi 4 ring badges fit perfectly and the quality is far superior to the ones bought on eBay. Of course they are more expensive, but well worth it. Just thought I’d post this up as I couldn’t find anything on here about black Audi OEM badges for the S1. Hope it helps.

How much did they cost from Audi please.
The front OEM Audi black gloss rings were £39 & the black gloss rear rings were £30. Probably double what you pay for the ones from eBay, but I’ve experienced those and they’re not that great and they fade and become patchy matt black.

That's how most of the snide badges are, an Sline badge and the one from an A1 badge. The 1 is supposed to be italic (and also closer to the S)
Yep - you’re so right. Bought these from eBay, about £9 each and are rubbish.
Not going to use them. Decided now to remove the S1 badges front and back and go for the de-badges look.9EDBE26B 9CB5 4B04 A122 5C92FCA4FAA255A490D2 80A9 4CCB 865B D8A24B5FE2D1A5F34CC8 56EB 43BD B1B7 D77BD539E190

If you really want proper black badges talk to Blacklabelz on facebook etc, they do proper OEM stuff in whatever colour you want

Roughly double the cost, not bad for the labour involved, yeah it's not cheap but you know you have the right badge not the terrible ***** that's on ebay - take a look, most are made up of the 1 from an A1 badge and the red flash from an s-line badge - font and spacing is wrong for an S1 ;)

Edit: I should check, I already made the point about crappy badges above

Surprisingly, OEM is half that cost -

'swhat I said? ‍♂️
You did. I posted the BlackLabelz prices along with the post from @Baz999fire as I was surprised to find the dealer to be cheaper, for once!

My point was to show that there’s little point buying from BL when you can get black badges from Audi at half the cost.
Granted the Q3 front badge needs two little lugs cutting off but that’s something even DIY-avoiders could tackle!

Cheers

Except you can't. The dealer does not do black S1 badges either front or rear and if you're cutting badges to get them to fit then the dealer doesn't do black badges for an 8X A1/S1 do they? The rear rings badge is a different size too IIRC ;)

Sorry @Phazer you've got me there - can't what?
You can't get the badges from the dealer, they're either the wrong size badge for an S1/A1 in the case of the rear rings or you're having to hack about cutting clips off to get the front to fit. That's what you're paying for with Blacklabelz - proper OEM badges, correct for the car coloured how you like.

I was just pointing out the assertion was incorrect that's all.

Call me old school if you like but if you're going to do something like modify your car, do it properly or don't bother, anything else is just a waste of cash. You should see what the S1 badge looks like when it's cabled tied to the honeycomb grill....hmmm lovely

Oh, @Baz999fire said the badge sizes were the same

So what I was getting at here was that I would rather have a badge that was made in that colour by Audi as it will be just as good - if not better - than ordering one from overseas, those being almost double the price. Especially when theyre the same size.

I am with you on doing something properly - buying OEM is proper, buying good aftermarket is too; buying cheap eBay rubbish isnt.

Yeah I think the black rear badge for the Q3 is bigger - a family member did their Q3 a few years ago so had them side by side. It's not a huge amount different.

Blacklabelz do a proper job on the painting for the name badges, they take them apart, no masking etc. Like you I wouldn't pay for the audi rings to be done, any competent bodyshop locally can do them :)

No - I can confirm that the rear OEM black Audi Q3 4 ring tailgate badge is absolutely identical to the OEM Audi S1 tailgate rear chrome badge in height and length.

Believe you me I like to carry out modifications properly too. No cheap eBay rubbish. I always go for OEM replacements. A good example is fitting the Audi OEM puddle lights for the doors. Audi do not list them for the S1, yet the puddle door lights from more expensive Audi models like the S3 or RS3 fit the S1 doors.
